2005 Ford E350 Super Duty Chateau V10

Looking at potentially my first tow vehicle. Any thoughts on a 2005 Ford E350 Super Duty Van Chateau (7 passenger) with a 305 hp V10 as a tow vehicle for an Airstream of 7600 GVWR. I believe it is rated at at least 9000 pounds.

Have them replace the sparkplugs if they haven't been already before you buy. They like to break in half when you try to remove them, and you got 10 of them.

None of mine broke and most of my V-10 Buds on the Ford forum never had much of a problem after the 2001 version. For the first removal, there is a good method of removal and if you use it, most do not have any issues. The biggest thing is to change plugs every 50k and not the 100k that Ford recommends. All of my 2008 plugs came out with no problem at 92k on the odometer, but I am changing mine as we speak at 140k.

I have a 2005 F250 with a V10 and I really like it for towing. The mileage is the same as our old F150 towing the same trailer.

r carl is right, have them change the plugs before you buy. Ours only hade 38,000 when we got it and Ford says the plugs will go 100,000. You guessed it, one of the plugs broke and that cost $100 just to remove one broken plug. If all 10 break that's $1,000 plus the cost of new plugs and they are $15 each.

that should be a really nice TV. It has the newer 3 valve 6.8 and is the same engine in millions of C Class and A Class motor homes. Also, it has one of the best auto trannys on the market, the 5 speed Torqueshift, and it has been rated better than the Allison.

I know people that went to the ford dealership to have them change their plugs before the warranty expired and they wouldn't unless the engine was misfiring. My best friends F250 sounded like a steam engine one day.

Heck I had a friend with a Cummins Dodge and the exhaust manifold cracked and it sounded like freight train gone wild just before it blew up.
I even heard of a few (like a lot) of Chevy diesels where the injectors went south and couldn't find enough replacements, not to mention plugged soot bags and sensors gone wild.

the V-10 is the most reliable, dependable, cheapest to maintain engine made in the past 10 years, bar none.

I have three trucks with the v10 , very reliable and they pull very well,

Don't forget the GM 8.1 or 454.

I never got a GM 502, i have owned several 454s and still have one. They are good, reliable, and cheap to keep running.
