2002 Mercedes Benz G500

Plan to tow a 1976 31' 4999lb Airstream from Missouri to Arizona with my '02 G500!

Can this be done and if so what setup will I need? I have a P3 electric Brake controller waiting for me to install it but I'm wondering if I need a WD hitch or will the good ole Ball hitch work?

Any suggestions would be great

You may want to contact Andy at Can Am RV in Canada (posts here or writes/advertises in Blue Beret or Airstream Life magazines..) or other RV dealers.. Pretty sure the 31' has high hitch weight (more than 500#) and will need weight distributing hitch. In addition, short wheelbase of G500 means you'd also be urged to be sure you have working anti-sway system.. Beyond that, issues for G500 include cooling and transmission cooling, plus brake controller and wiring for lights, which are pretty easily solved. Andy has set up Chevy Traverse's and Ford Edge's to tow 30' and longer Airstreams, so it certainly is possible, but it is also quite possible to do it wrong and make a mess going over Rockies...

You have about 1400 lbs. of payload available on the vehicle. This needs to include driver, passengers, 30.4 fuel tank, and all cargo. If you carry most of your cargo in the trailer you should have plenty of payload left over for your cargo in your G500.
