1971 Umbilical???

I have a 1968 Ambassador and just bought a 1971 Ambassador. The 1968 has what I believe (or at least will call) is a "standard" seven pin connector that comes out of the coach's tongue. The 1971 has what I guess you would call an umbilical cord that comes out of the coach and isn't the same seven pin set up (and made for a problem when getting it out of the farmer's field and home). Is there an adapter I can buy for my truck and its current seven pin connection for when I am pulling the 71?

Why not just re-wire both plugs so that they are the same? No adaptor needed.

Agree , the standard in the 60's and 70's was different than it is today as far as color code and pin location . Re-wire both plugs to todays standard and you'll be all set to tow both trailers or anyone else's . Your TV is probably correct .

My 71 has a standard 7 pin. I suspect for some unknown reason a previous owner modified your 71, maybe to use a 6 pin.

I did the new cord with the flat seven way plug on the tow vehicle end and the loose seven wires on the trailer end. The cost of the new cable was not too much. Then while watching some movie on the ole movie channel, put the correct wire into the Air Stream round type trailer plug.

All the vehicle's now have the same plug arrangement for the trailer that I may use. I purchased an seven to four adapter so that my brother in-laws lil car dolly has all the electric's working and an seven to six for the flat bed trailer that I borrow from time to time.
