Safari 25' Model C Inspection - Ideas
Good evening,
This is my first post on Air Forums. We just looked at a 2003 Safari 25' Model C for a possible purchase. The rig is in good condition with a number of issues that we are concerned about. #1543. We found wet areas under the rear bed and to the right of the door in the front area. Ceiling looked good as did other areas of the trailer. It had carpet on the walls - has anyone removed those to put up laminate or other material? The AC worked great. Refrig is in need of repair.
Purchase price is 23,900. There is a dent on the roof but not obvious leaks from that location.

In my opinion, the price is too high for the condition. Three years ago I paid $20K for a 2001 Safari 25 with a new vinyl woodgrain floor and recliners. It was in excellent condition. With the exception of the 9 months that the second owners had it, when not in use it was stored inside. The outside looked like new. Stove looked like it was new, everything worked. With a wet floor in two spots, and particularly at the rear where there was a known problem with leaks at the bumper/shell interface, the probability of floor rot is high. If there is carpet in the wet areas, pull it up and check the condition of the floor. Even if it is good, it is a significant effort to seal up the bumper area, and probably expensive if you pay to have it done. A new fridge will be well north of $1000.

There are active leaks. The rear could be rear bumper/rub rail leak and the front windows. Probably have to remove the carpet/vinyl to determine condition of the subfloor. You would need to have a SealTech leak test performed to isolate any shell/window leaks then correct. Pull the vinyl/carpet to properly dry the subfloor then install new vinyl or other floor type.
As for the carpet on the wall this can be removed and new mouse fur material installed. That would be the cheapest and it would look good or you can install a padded wall material

Thanks Al. The rear storage compartment was definitely wet and we have had a bit of rain lately. The weatherproofing for the storage doors was pretty much non-existent. I was successful in attaching a few pics in another message. We are thinking of looking at the rig again tomorrow and take tools with us to get under the bed and pull up the carpet by the door. We're pretty handy construction wise so not daunted by a challenge, but we don't want to push jello up a hill either.
Thank you for your feedback on the price as well!

Way too high...thoughts on $14,000 to start negotiations? My list of repairs and updates (floors, refrigerator, solar, LED's, etc.) is at $19,000 (includes inspection and service center leak tests, appliance checks, etc.
I'm still not convinced we'll put an offer in. Will ask to see it again and look under the bed with tools and pull up the carpet.

This is a really rough, poorly maintained Airstream. Severe water damage to the subfloor and rust in the frame is indicated. Other problems. Forget about the price, it's way too high.
Don't go back, there are decent Airstreams on the market and really nice ones for that much money.

Buy a moisture Meter ,Sonin is a good one and low priced . Many Safaries had OSB sub floors if it gets wet and not dried out it rots fast look under cabinets for plywood . keep looking for a good one .

Thanks! We were actually looking at moisture meters last night. We'll check that out. And thanks for the OSB info, we'll add that to our checklist. Much appreciated.
