What Do You Do For Work?
This is my 500th post, and now I should be a Rivet Master.. a MUCH coveted title, even if it should be "Rivet Mistress." I thank you all for helping me in MANY cases, and "putting up" with me in others!
**************************************
What do YOU do for work?
Is there a common thread between us, aside from being attracted to big shiny things??
Gary is a retired Construction Road Laborer and I am a retired Activity Director in Long Term Care , now we own our own business, an antique shop in Rockford, (northern) Illinois. (90 miles west of Chicago)

p.s. we'll keep this poll friendly and non-political :-)

I work on fiber optic transmission equipment for a "major media concern back east". They do not like us using their name. Weird, huh? Lots of fun. Lots of laughs.

What Do You Do For Work?
I am a public school teacher specializing in Business/Commercial subjects and Microcomputer Applications that has included being a district-wide Technology Coordinator earlier in my career. After receiving a lay-off notice as a result of budget cuts last year, I have been continuing my education through graduate coursework at SIU-C.

My husband and I are fully self-employed by our business
D & S Sci-Fi Toy World
Which we run out of our home, selling sci-fi tv and movie toys. I am currently checking out the forum just to take a break from processing the 300 cases of toys we received today in preparation for the opening of Star Wars Episode 3!
We've been doing this for ten years, though I was only able to leave my software design/programming job a couple years ago to work at the business full time. It's not making us rich, but it gives us free time to live, which the software jobs did not. Now I can't imagine working for someone else 8 hrs a day plus commuting time. I hope I never have to go back.
So if anyone needs any Star Wars toys, come help us out

Congratulations, Kid! 500 is an awful lot of posts....
I've been a research scientist at Bayer Pharmaceuticals for almost 22 years. My speciality is making antibodies which is done by picking specific sites on a protein, synthesizing peptides from that protein and using those to generate make the antibody.
Working on my Airstream is more fun, though!

Welcome to the 500 club!! For the past 15 months, I have been the Campus Director for a post-secondary educational institution that offers degrees in Visual Communication, PC/Networking, Game Design and Interior Design. We are a branch campus of our main campus in Tempe. I've held a number of positions within this college since joining the team in 1996.
I agree, aluminum is more fun. Think I'll retire early.

Strings and Tubes
I am self employed in the music industry. My company imports high end musical instruments from small specialty shops around the world ( mostly old world Europe) and distributes them to better music stores, and some collectors around the country. We also offer studio and tour support for major label rock bands that tour regularly. Our specialty are electric guitars, electric bass guitars, tube amplification for guitars, and bass amplifiers. My motto: If it's too loud, then I'm getting too old for it...
My office/warehouse is located in Orange CA.
My wife works as a corporate purchasing specialist at a large electronics manufacturer's headquarters in Irvine, CA.

Congratulations on reaching 500! Someday I hope to follow in your footsteps.
From reading all of the previous posts, it seems that there is a myriad of occupations here. That is good because diversity makes it all so interesting.
I am a "UAW Training Technologist". I teach industrial automation and electronics controls to Skilled Trades Electricians for General Motors. Anything that goes on or into your car or truck is made by something that I have taught on how to install it. repair it or replace it.
I also have a strange habit of doing hexadecimal math in my head. It scares my boss when I do it!
The wife is a former database manager for GM. She has been a stay-at-home mom ever since our first daughter, (we have two now), was born over five years ago.
My job rocks, but my Minuet rocks more!

I'm a commercial interior designer...and until last month I was self-employed. I've always had a work hard/play hard attitude, now, having merged with a larger architectural firm, I'm only working 3 days a week to make time for all my Airstreaming... Been a hectic month getting everything sorted out, but it's all good!

My wife helps out at our chuch about 5 hours a week. Otherwise she is a stay at home mom, which be both like. It's hard to do in this day-and-age, but its worth it

Thanks AS forums for being a great release for me in my retirement!

I am a Manufacturing Supply Superintendent with GM @ the Fort Wayne assembly plant, and I have been with GM over 27 years. My wife has worked in banking, education, and she was a supervisor with GM. She left GM when our first daughter was born. She is just completing her second year of homeschooling our oldest daughter...while keeping the younger one happy, not a small feat. Toughest and most satisfying job she has had!

Oh my gosh, I've been to Rockford, and my very good friends own a boarding and training kennel there. I'm an RN and my husband is a Construction Project Superintendent. I work in a child abuse prevention program for the State of Oklahoma after spending years working in a hospital. That's very hard on a body. Had to go on to management to save my back. Judy

juel,
Gotta love it...I am a "babysitter" (superintendant) for a national roofing contractor.(read travel...a lot!) My specialty is Architectural Metals. I have 25 years in the building industry, usually in postions in the field, I hate being indoors in an office. My lovely wife is a Sr Flight Attendant with US Airways and owns a Bridal Shop, where I am IT, stock boy, and truck driver...we hope it is our way to an early semi-retirement.
