I'm only 24 so I have a long way to go before I can retire. At the rate that the company I work for is growing, in a few years my Fleet Management responsibilites will become a full time position and I'll be weened off of the road.

Your job is similar to my job, but I work for an HVAC filter sales and service company and my company calls the position "Fleet Coordinator".
You are never really "weened off the road". After 2 years of working in the office full time and going through a DOT audit I ran a filter service route 2 days this week. I've still got it as a route man. At 44 Years old and 220# I serviced 18 accounts Wednesday and 19 accounts Thursday. I wish I could have had a newbie or slow poke with me so I could show 'im how it's done.

Wow! I posted on this thread in March of 2005, post #86. A lot has changed since then. The job I was at for 5 years evaporated in 2008, like so many other people's jobs.

I kicked around for a few years doing odd jobs, building cabinets for friends, and family, selling stuff on Ebay. Sold my Overlander. Sad day.

Out of desperation I started my own business. Essentially, I gave up on being employed in the "real world" and having a "real job." I now have a business building, designing and installing custom pull out drawers for kitchens, baths, pantries, or any type of existing cabinetry. (One day I will get around to doing the gutted interior of my 77' Sovereign) I am into my 4th year at this venture, and business is good. Fun too!

Being laid off was life changing... for the better. Now I refer to myself as "Self Un-Employed." I now have my new to me 77' Sovereign to tinker with. Life is good! The scary part is that I have been on this site now for 11 years, and an Airstream owner for almost 13. Addictions are hard to break.

I am lawyer and so is my husband...still working representing regulated industries after all these years. I like to introduce myself to my friends in the world of wayercolor painting and photography as a "recovering attorney" but lately it seems the recovery part hasn't been going to well and we have been spending lots of time at he office.

Hard to believe I have been on the forum almost since the beginning, and never posted what I did except for some random comments to others in this thread back in 2005. I used to manage the IT Operations Department for the America's Center (St. Louis Convention Center), and the Edward Jones Dome. We provided the Internet, Data Networking, Voice and Wireless communications for the back office and all events held in the complex.

Currently I am unemployed/retired. Moved out of my job too soon by an outsourcing decision by management in August 2012. At this point at 65, and after looking for over a year, my seniority is definitely minimizing my ability to regain employment. At this point after this much time off, I've really realize that what I miss is the people, not the stress of the job. Nice to get feedback from friends and others at the old job who tell me that the service level has dropped since I left. I always felt that our department put forth the extra effort to make a difference. Now it's noticed, but the horse has left the barn. A hasty decision made to save a few bucks, forgetting that those of us locally provided a better level service because we lived here.

Still trying to get something part time but I'm staying out of retail, which would be the easiest job to get, because I don't want to work weekends and holidays. We will see what develops.

I'm a physical therapist working in a rehab facility and was able to get a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday schedule so we could Airstream on long weekends. My husband owns a carpentry subcontracting business and is always on the phone doing business, but as long and I'm in my beloved Airstream, I don't care! I think SteveSueMac should make a CD about Airstreaming! I'd buy it!
