I've been a custom goldsmith for 30 years after getting a Master's Degree in Engineering. Just didn't fit into 'corporate America' ,I guess. Started in the jewelry business soon after leaving the last 'real job' and never looked back. Had a major jewelry store outside NYC but got tired of the rat race and moved to Oregon with the new wife.
After 10 years there we sold the house, bought a 40'MoHo and headed to Florida for the weather AND business climates( I opened a custom jewelry studio that has been doing verfy well.) After fixing a lot of things on the MOHO and helping friends do it too, I decided to get some training on Rv's and found a school, got certified as a Master Tech by the RV Service
Academy and the RVIA/RVDA and have recently started my own RV service business here in Southwest FL.
ALso sold the MOHO last May and just bought an '06 International 19' to use as a base camp when I hit the road in May to head back to Oregon for the summer, fixing RV's in need along the way.
I also plan to attend the factory service tech program at Jackson Center to become an Airsrteam Certified Tech as well.

I have a BSME (mechanical engineering) MBA and have spent the last 35 years in the plastics industry (product and materials development). Still do some consulting. Give away alot of free advice on forums for plastics and design projects. Been a member of WBCCI for eleven years and was president of Northern ILL local, VAC member for eight years and long term tent and pop-up camper before I bought my first Airstream in 1986. Also run some single family rental houses on the side. Wife is a retired school teacher. This is my first year neither of us have a W-2. Spend more time now with the grandkids.

Saw the thread and decided to post.
I work for Carolina International Trucks, ( International truck dealer ) as a Partsman (Parts person). Been with International for 15 years, but have worked in various automotive shops before that including a couple years in a auto body repair and paint shop.
Parts is Parts.
I will second what many of you have said, it sure is interesting how diverse a group this is !

Hello Steve-I too am a sculptor, of sorts, I can get "lost" for days and weeks when sculpting[mainly figurative and some animals] Have my own bronze furnace--mold making sucks-I make my living going to art fairs around mich and ohio in the summers--selling everything from stoneware wall art to copper pieces for gardens--does the UK have artfairs? Hopefully you can get to doing what you really enjoy as a living--instead of "art for others"--good luck with the quest!- --jim from mich

Tramp Streamer
Gee, can’t believe I missed this thread till now.
Currently a TRAMP STREAMER
After a number of years in hospital ICU’s, I moved into a nursing administration position for a high tech home care company in NYC. Than, fierce head hunters nabbed me as a consultant for a health care management software Company. After getting it all, I sold it all. 5 years ago I hit the road, earning my living as a painter, exhibiting my paintings at juried fine art shows across America.
I moved up to a 95, 28 foot Excella from a 36ft class A motorhome 16 months ago and love life in my Airstream.
I spend most of my time in Florida, Texas, Illinois, and Colorado. I really enjoy traveling and making new friendships. My artwork can be seen at: http://www.Artzilla.net

I own a Airstream restoration shop. I'm 20 years old and have been married for almost 3? I polish Airstreams, Repair Airstreams, sell Airstreams and nothing but Airstreams. Just goes to show it doesn't matter what age you are to enjoy alum fever.

I am a retired police officer, retired in 2000 just prior to my 50th birthday. Cyndi is a retired elementary school secretary. She now spends her time at home dying cross stitch floss and fabric for SanMan Originals and I spend my time at home working in my workshop. We usually are home about half the year.

Variety is the Spice of Life
WOW! I am amazed at the variety of people we have here on this forum. I am equally impressed to learn that no matter WHAT a person does to earn a paycheck, he/she can always log on here and feel like a part of the Aluminum Family.
I'm currently a fulltime college professor at a private Bible college. As expected, I teach many Bible courses, local church ministry courses, and a few courses in education. I'm also the Director of Christian Service, which basically means it's my job to make sure all students are actively involved in practicing what they are learning.
As if that was not enough, I am also serving as a part-time Minister of Education at a church.
I'm the fourth owner of this 67 Overlander. Just found a long lost letter in the deep recesses of the front sofa. It was still sealed and addressed to the original owner, also a minister. Hmmm, go figger!

I am a retired police chief as of July of last year after working 33 years in a municipal police department of 100 sworn officers. Before that I worked in the accounting department of a major food processing company. Went into law enforcement for the excitement of it and wasn't disappointed. Wife was in banking, but quit to raise 2 kids. I spent all those years looking forward to seeing the country instead of tail lights. Currently on full time AS tour of the USA, but it sure is taking us a long time to see all of Texas. Don't want to do any work, just be a country boy and gawk and eat different cuisine. Am pursuing a lifelong interest in learning to play a bluegrass banjo. As I told the troops when I retired, "I don't want to work. I've worked for 40 years, now it's time to play!" Full speed ahead!

I'm retired, for the third time, but it doesn't seem to stick. People call up and advise me of nifty things going on and I can't seem to resist.....my partner thinks that just because it's fun it isn't work. Maybe she's right. Sweet.
The career thread has been fighter pilot, test pilot, major program manager (a few billion $$ here and there, where are you, Everett Dirksen?), Congressional Staffer, corporate business developer, range rat (that's the other end of flight test, down on the ground getting the data), and consultant. Stick in photographer here and there, house builder (it'll never be finished), cabinet maker, and Airstream re-doer (working on #3 and have #4 in the que).
The last four are the work I love. After 38 times of picking up the house and moving, it's good to have a place where my wood shop can reside permanently!
