Dealers can't force anyone to buy or sell at their dealership. If their prices are too high, Mr Public will go elsewhere, or buy a different product. Dealers will ALWAYS offer less than what they think your trailer is worth on trade in, and raise their prices to more than what the last guy paid. If one unit sells too fast, the next one will be priced higher; if another sits on the lot too long, the price will go down. In the end, the public decides the price. Prices will always reflect what the public is willing to pay.

1)Month purchased: June

2)What is the make and model of your Airstream? *a-hem* '89 Avion 34VB

3)How much was your Airstream listed for?$16,000

4)What did you actually pay?$13,500

5)What area of the country did you purchase it? St Louis

6)Condition and/or upgrades? Well loved. PO replaced AC units, furnaces, vents, brakes, tires, water pump, fridge, rock guard, etc. All our upgrades are cosmetic.

We had just given up hope of finding a larger Avion, and were visiting a storage lot to see a whitebox for sale. Across the aisle was this beautiful Avion. When the lot attendant saw my heart melt for the Avion, she offered to call the owner to see if it was for sale. As a matter of fact,... the previous week they came to the decision to sell.

Totally agree. And it is expected that dealer buy backs of trade-ins are low balled, but NADA doesn't know that when the trade in gets reported from the dealer as a "sale." It's problematic when dealer trade-in reports are calculated into NADA figures deflating the cost and not realistically representing actual prices of Airstreams on the private market. This makes traditional loans more difficult if financing is coming from a credit union or bank and they use NADA for valuations. As we can see, NADA is wayyyyy off in most cases.

I lived in a 34V trailer. I wish I had it back. They were great.

Asking $3000

Paid $2500.

Michigan. Purchased 8/16

Horrible condition! It is currently shell off. It will be interesting to see how much money will need to be put into it and how much it will be worth.

Just a rough figure based solely on the folks responding to this thread with their purchases in this past year, it looks like the actual purchase to list price percentage paid was 98% so far for the 22 who have answered this thread.

There aren't enough answers yet to really detail this down for vintage sales vs. newer models, nor condition, nor restoration, nor location etc. I only averaged each sale's percentage. The overall range was at 72%-100%. None of this is enough to make a accurate summation over an actual percentage gage to go by when buying or selling, but just for my overall curiosity, I found it interesting.

But there are so many variables to consider...too many, in my opinion, to think that 98% of asking price is some kind of magic number in buying/selling a used Airstream.
