My wife and I are staying at an RV park on the Yellowstone River 20 miles south of Livingston, MT where the days are beautiful in the low 70's. We're only about 20 feet from the river's edge, with snow capped mountains in the background, Osprey's flying and fishing up and down the river, and pretty good fishing for this old man as well.

This afternoon we're going to a cookout here in the park where the owners will be cooking buffalo burgers for everyone. Should be fun.

John

Building a Concrete Brick Patio

I thought I would be done by now but Friday as I was getting up from laying brick on a sand bed my left knee cap popped. Wow! painfull. So I gave it a rest and did other things this weekend. Hopefully I can get back at it again today (on one knee). I have about 150 square feet to go. Last fall I caused a four month sciatic back pain attack from shoveling road base to build up a level pad to park my Airstream. This yard labor stuff is not easy anymore.

I was up bright and early polishing the safari. Between combinations of Nuvite F7, S, mineral spirits, flannel material, and wax/sealer, I went over each section eight times!

Had to quite around 11:30am when the Sun became too bright!

Then I went on into work at the office....

driving the Airstream back from a weekend in the Smokies. Enjoyed some awesome weather, mid 70's day low 60's night. Made it to my driveway, when a radiator hose started to leak. Good timing, it didn't mar my trip a bit.

Geocaching! We've found 8 caches so far this weekend, and bicycled about ten miles in the process. Having lots of fun doing it!

We also moved the Caravel back under the carport, recently vacated by the Bambi (which left with it's new owner last week). So that almost qualifies as tinkering with it.

Puttering

We finished installing flat LCD television in the Airstream, which saves time and effort in stowage of former big & heavy 13" unit with VCR .. (We've discovered we are using our Excella more as a reading library than movie watching lounge..). Still wondering if I have nerve to wire 12V power inlet on TV direct to Cigarett plug in trailer wall... TV requires 40 watts, and that seems like a lot for 12V wiring installed.. (Sharp 13" unit looks fabulous on 110V power..)

Also took high temp test run in old Motorcycle (1976 Honda GL-1000 Gold Wing) to verify thermostat and fan switch repair solved overheating problems. After run over hills to ocean of 110 miles, engine is fine, but 100 degree heat in San Jose area almost wiiped me out, in heavy jacket and leather boots/gloves etc... Finished yardwork, another article for Airstream Life and garage cleanup... Ready to go back to work..

Our son-in-law finished the linoleum floor and wood quarterround trim that replaced the yucky stained carpet from the throne leak that developed this summer on our trip West. Looks really good and aren't we lucky to have him in the family! We contracted out the throne repair so all is back and ready for the next road trip. Max cleaned up the messy left on the new floor from all the work while I spent most of the day in the hospital with our oldest son who badly fractured both bones of his left leg near the the ankle in a fall on Thursday. He is a lifetime diabetic with lots of complications so we've been on a roller coaster ride for four days, but as of this evening, the orthopedic surgery has been done, successfully as it can be, we believe, and all seems rather stable for the moment. Not the way we or he planned the Labor Day weekend, but, hey, things could have gone so much worse for him. Guess he is in for months of healing and rehab. Part of my hospital hours I spent imagining our next outing with our Airstream. . .good dreaming for hard times!

Question Geo Huh??

I give up... I've thought much of weekend trying to figure out what is Geocaching, and what to do with the ten you claim to have found? I haven't even figured out enough to ask the next question if this were a What's My Line contest...

John McG

>> And note to Flyfishr: I believe we were backed into same space at that same KOA on Yellowstone River south of Livingston during our trip home from Rockies and Oshkosh.. Twenty feet to the river, splashing of fish jumping out for flies and driftboats nearly kept us up past bedtime... That's one location we marked in log as needing to get back to...

Geocaching is a treasure hunt game done with a handheld GPS unit. The link Sheri posted above will show you where caches are located in your area. Then you get a handheld GPS and hunt them down. When you find them you usually sign the log and exchange trinkets with one found in the cache. Sounds simple, but it's really lots of fun. It has helped us discover a lot of hikes, parks, bicycling opportunities we didn't know about. And they're all over the country, so you can do them on the road too. It's a great excuse to get out and explore.
