Visitor Messages Poll

Earlier, I went to a member's profile to post a Vistor Message because my thought fit neither a post nor a PM. To my surprise, this popular member had disabled the Visitor Message function.

Do you like the idea and/or use the "Visitor Messages" option?

Just curious,
Tom

How did he disable the Visitor Message? Without any means of notification that one has them why are they of any value?

"I want to believe", said Mulder

I wasn't aware that this function could be edited.

Nice work, Special Agent Tom.

I have turned mine off as well, as I don't see the point of them and I also think (in fact know) that many don't understand that those messages are viewable by the public...I'd prefer private conversations to remain private. (Not that I really have any earth-shattering private conversations!) I removed one message before I disabled it because I know the author did not know their message could be seen by everybody.

I find it an amusing way to expose my friends' comments to the public.

No, just kidding. Mine is not disabled, please feel free to comment as you like. There is enough oppression in this world.

SAVE THE VISITOR MESSAGE PAGES!!!!

I've used it once or twice, but don't get the point of it so I have disabled it. I either post in the public thread, send a PM (very rarely an email) or use the "thanks/karma" feature - I don't see a need for any other form of forum communication. Maybe I'm missing the point...but I don't get it or see what the benefit of it is.

I like it because all the nice people can look at the photo of best hockey team in the world and read all the notes of congratulations. Of course I understand why folks whose teams didn't win the cup might feel right Shari??

This option does it turn off the complete visitor area or just the message section?

After review, I see your point

I thought visitor messages were neat when I posted this poll.

But, after reading a whole bunch of them left for various members, it is obvious that TBRich has left the best comment yet:

Please note that the poll results favor TBRich's post.

Interesting.

Just an FYI, the unnamed moderator is expecting a visit from members of the Get-A-Life Foundation any day now...

Wow... another way to communicate w/o the secret decoder ring... sheesh, never really thought about whether anyone else could see what was written. Thinking that's what the PM's are for. Besides, just because someone said something about me doesn't mean I have to admit to it... unless there were wittnesses.

Oh wait, that's what we're talking about...

I didn't know it could be turned off. Thanks for letting me know. There are plenty of ways to communicate and besides, I don't even look there most of the time.

Pop quiz

Name the member whose visitor messages wished him a happy birthday with this image:

and earn a shot of karma.

The birthday boy can reply too.
