Terrific idea for a poll!
We were definitely influenced by the forum folks. Not only did we feel we were getting some very objective insights, but we especially loved the subjective "it's just so cool and beautiful!" that we kept reading between the lines. The enthusiasm has been contagious, and we are now on the verge of becoming A/S parents: Delivery is the day after tomorrow! We are going well-armed with all of the lists provided by our esteemed colleagues in Airstream addiction, and--something we learned on the forums--our dealer has a very good rep., so we feel optimistic.
We think we chose a model that suits us, although they all seem to have their strong points. The Intl CCD is gorgeous, and of course those vintage models are to die for...
In the meantime, we're about to explode in anticipation! There's going to be a party on our driveway Friday night.
Thanks to you all for the enthusiasm, words of caution, keeping us somewhat connected to reality, and most of all--for the amazing knowledge base in this place.

I would have purchased an A/S anyway, but the forums were helpful in evaluating my current one, which is vintage. It helped keep me from buying a turd.

yes it was a great resource, we blew up the motor in our SOB MoHo, saw an 85 345 where we were towed to. Found the forums, did some research, looked at 2 others, asked a lot of questions and have had 18 months of great advice and help.

If it were not for this forum, I don't think I would have purchased a 30yr old Airstream...especially for a first RV. The information provided by the many talented members here is invaluable. I purchased a 1976 Sovreign 31 on ebay...without physically seeing the unit...and felt totally comfortable traveling 1200 miles to inspect and pick-up my old AS. Through months of research and great information from this site, I was able to make a successful bid on a great old unit.
Yes and no. 6 short months ago we bought our first Airstream and subsequently found the "Forum" on-line while fooling around trying to learn more about Airstreams. This was our first RV/Trailer of any kind and we weren't sure we'd like Airstream'in. So we purchased what we thought would be easy to tow and affordable to buy, if we later realized it wasn't our cup of tea. We went to our first Forum Rally and knew we loved our Airstream and other Airstreamers. So on our way back from our 4th Rally this month, we purchased a larger and of course more pricey AS because we are in this for the long haul (so to speak). And I can truly say we purchased our new 25'FB International as a result of the Forum.

It is the love of Airstreams that brings us here. I joined the Forum 2 days after I bought my first Airstream. As an engineer by training I knew I was going to have mechanical problems and I've come here time and again for an answer - and I hope providing answers where I can. It's rather like the first time you have a child. There must be a million reasons why not but your heart makes you do it anyway!
the forums helped me decide because you can't help but feel the love for airstreams brought out in reading them. the excitement and airstream fever is a catchable, yet thoroughly enjoyable and understandable disease. would i own my airstream without the forums? yes. would i still love her? yes. would i understand airstream fever? possibly not. would i have found so many airstream friends? no. i think that is my final answer!
Our decision to buy an Airstream was based upon the somewhat uncensored comments and trailers for sale on Airstream's own Airstreamer and Forum sections, now defunct but still sporting a lame message about "sorry for the inconvience--- available at a later date". I was impressed that Airstream would include some views that weren't always complimentary and certainly yu could see the love for a classic American icon and the life style it brings out in people. I was one who complained (to them) when they didn't keep the site up to date, when links didn't work properly and when there was porn or links to it on the forum. See what it got me! It's still not fixed!
BTW, it wasn't that we disliked this site, we weren't aware of it and didn't find it in our web surfing till after we bought our first Airstream.
