We call it "the trailer" or "the camper".
Most everyone we know and camp with calls them "the trailer" or "the camper" regardless of style, type, brand.
We have a camping friend with several campers. She calls her Tiffin Allegro Bus "the big one" and her Airstream Interstate " the little one".
Most people even say at the end of the evening "we're going to the trailer" even if they're RV is a Class A motorhome. Maybe they owned trailer's in the past?
Some people actually call their motorhome "the motorhome"- one word, said very quickly, run together..,

Wrapping up an 11 day trip with my wife and two young boys and happened through a big RV show yesterday and thought I'd be tempted. But, after looking at up to $500k RV's, I came out feeling even more content with my 27FB. I paid for it, I know it's history and it's just so easy. Plus, once you've had and AS, you're so spoiled by the quality.

Enjoying the night with the dripping of rain in Stone Mountain Georgia as we speak.

You guys have a great week and excuse my rambling....but I knew you could feel my pain.

That being said, I've actually had both family and friends try and correct me in public when I mention I have a camper trailer, where they'll try and chime in "oh... he has an Airstream!" to ensure I get the full effect.

"dude... it's a camper trailer!"

"but it's and AIR-STREAM!!!"

. . ..

at which time the other party usually asks about the interior and such, and when I inquire if they use dometic appliance, toilets, etc., in their camper and get a positive reply, I tell them "exact same stuff; different shell with a ton more windows to bring the outside in" and the convo is essentially over at that point.

My dad bought a motorhome in 1973. We were forever correcting people who referred to it as our mobile home. It was like the word "motorhome" had not entered the English language yet, and that "mobile home" didn't already have a meaning. If they didn't call it a mobile home, they would try to make up a word to describe it.

Yeah, we were pretty much snobs about it.

Right now I still call mine the money pit. When it's done I'll call it a camper.

I've gotten flack a few times as I refer to a campground as a trailer park.

Our 73 Sovereign was the "Silver Hot Dog" or simply "the trailer".
Our 09 Flying Cloud is the "Phoenix".
Our tow vehicle, a Ford F350 pick up, is "Glitter". "Glitter" comes from the letters on the license plate.

As a kid, "camper" was what you put in your pickup truck bed when you went camping. A trailer for recreational use was a "travel trailer", not the same thing as a camper.

And there was a legal distinction, too. Kids could ride in campers, but not in travel trailers. I think that had to do with whether the occupants could communicate with the driver or not. That was back in the 50's and 60's in Northern California, and terminology changes.

Yes. Just because I can afford to own an airstream doesn't mean I should be snobbish about owning it. Just my two cents!

I'm not snobbish enough to get offended by ones description of my aluminum bundle of joy. She's my baby, and I call her mine.

Not much reason for us to be snobbish anyway really, when you stack up the relative pittance we paid compared to the cost of the monster class A motorhomes roaming the countryside in huge numbers! By comparison, we are really poor cousins!

Up here a camper is something that sits in the bed of a truck. As in truck and camper.

The license plate for a travel trailer in Nebraska says it is a "mobile home". You get a different plate for a utility trailer.
We call our Argosy "The Great Twinkie". The other travel trailer is simply "The Nash".

TVs (television), Polk stereo, refrigerator, range , oven, thermostaticly controlled air-conditioning, hydronic heat, recliners with foot rest, flush toilet, shower and a queen size bed is hardly "camping".

We call it the "trailer" or the "RV".

Cool What's in a name....

Then, what am I supposed to answer to a passerby that refers to my 22 foot Airstream by saying, "Love your COACH!" (usually followed by, "Do they still make them??)

Some days its just "the trailer" other days its "the #%$^ trailer" depending upon what is being worked on at the moment, and how bloody my knuckles are because of the work...

Formally, its named "The Silver Hamshack" if you believe the custom-engraved medallion...

My Dad calls it the “motorhome”.

No Dad, it doesn’t have a motor...

Pretentious to only call it "Airstream" and offended by "camper"??

We just call it the Airstream.

I don't have any guilt about being pretentious and rarely get offended.

Airstream dealers don't sell or serve Airstream humble pie.
You buy and pay for Airstream. If you take it in for any service, they make you pay for Airstream.
Parts are priced for Airstream.

I'm still working, and time to use it is just not enough.
That might be my problem, I am too busy to have even considered "calling it Airstream pretentious" or offending with term "camper."

Maybe I can slow down enough someday to consider this.

Hear hear!

We are the same. We call it The Airstream and have never considered calling it something else. To us it seems natural. We don’t suppose we are better than anyone else when we say it.
