Pretentious to only call it "Airstream" and offended by "camper"??

We just call it the Airstream.

I don't have any guilt about being pretentious and rarely get offended.

Airstream dealers don't sell or serve Airstream humble pie.
You buy and pay for Airstream. If you take it in for any service, they make you pay for Airstream.
Parts are priced for Airstream.

I'm still working, and time to use it is just not enough.
That might be my problem, I am too busy to have even considered "calling it Airstream pretentious" or offending with term "camper."

Maybe I can slow down enough someday to consider this.

Wayne

Hear hear!

We are the same. We call it The Airstream and have never considered calling it something else. To us it seems natural. We don’t suppose we are better than anyone else when we say it.

It is actually a travel trailer. They were designed more for traveling as compared to camping.
A place to sleep and eat and freshen up for the next days journey.
They are not really suited for back road, back wood or off road travel. Not enough ground clearance.
I am not sure you call it camping when you are parked on pavement or groomed gravel sites with water, power and sewer.
Isn't that what they call GLAMPING?

Reality: It does not matter what you call it--you are out camping in it...and smiling most of the time...

That why our Airstream has a proper personal name. We always refer to her as Lucy.

My friend Pete only camps in his tent. He would be the first to remind us it is not "camping".

We call ours “the coach” and I believe that was what our dealer impressed upon us and then the sales literature of the time referred to them as “travel coaches”. I’m still proud as hell that I have exactly what I always wanted and swore to have someday. It’s a beach cottage, mountain chalet, forest cabin...etc. I think our then 10 year old nephew looked at it and said, “I can’t believe I’m supposed to be excited about some old piece of junk!” then he stepped inside and let out a big Wow!! People who clearly don’t pay attention think that any loaf shaped aluminum trailer is old, and they don’t realize how long the brand has been around.

Fun is this topic.

For we, it's Airstream.

For the others. It's Airstream too.

Because in Europe, an Airstream is too different from other trailers.

Snobbery ? No. Pride... Surely for we.

Jokes of friends is Aluminum tin can or aluminum billy. .

kind jealousy.

Pretentious SOB

Being pretentious is calling non-airstreams SOB (some other brand). Sure no harm intended but the common definition and use for "SOB" by the world is demeaning, rude and unpolite. Which outside of the forum the use will be mis-understood. Which makes us sound like pretentious snobs.
