Well, not too long ago I went to a church get together. During a mixer activity we sat in a large circle and shared a bit of what we liked to do. I shared that I had an Airstream and liked to travel. Later, when we were getting snacks a couple came up to me and said, "wow, what's it like owning your own plane?" "Where do you fly to?" I laughed and explained it was the name of a brand of trailer.

I started calling it different names depending on who I was talking to. Airstream or trailer on the forum, RV anywhere else- just to simplify the conversation. Other words, even like trailer, outside of a particular context, have too many perceptions, like mobile home, to some, etc. RV COULD mean to some only a class A but people seem to understand it better.

Hi there,
I've been telling folks that I'm buying an Airstream to go full time for a year and see what's out there. Most people feel sorry for me in a "mobile home park after a tornado" kinda way.
They have no idea that Airstream travel trailers I've been looking at are more amazing than most of their houses 😋
I've really been enjoying your forums here.
Looking at 2016 Classic and also the 23D International Serenity. I'm so excited.
Sincerely,
Colleen

I guess I'm pretentious. I call it "the Airstream". Who knew.

Ditto SeaLevel. And I refer to us not as campers, but trailer trash.

Living in the South where mobile homes are often the dwelling of choice we refer to our trailer as the "single wide" and our van, because no one can prep for doomsday like a good ole Southern boy, by its name, "Bugout."

We had a pop-up camper for almost ten years before moving up to our Airstream.
When we had the camper, we would go camping. Now that we have the Airstream, we call it the glamper and we go glamping because we are enjoying a more glamorous outdoor experience than ever before. It may be an Airstream, but we try to fly under the radar.

We call ours Airstream or camper and her official name is Silverspud. When we see one anywhere, whoever sees it first calls Airstream alert including our four year old daughter and we all wave like crazy people.

Airstreams have been in our family since the 50's.

Grandpa and dad always called theirs "the Airstream". That is what I tend to do, although my wife calls it a "camper". Just not a trailer... LOL

It really doesn't matter "the Airstream", "the camper" or whatever.

You know what you have and that is all that counts.

We call ours the Four Seasons. When folks ask where we're staying, we just say "the Four Seasons."

Never gave it any thought but we call the Airstream the Airstream and the SOB motorhome the RV.

Airstream calls them Travel Trailers

If you visit the Airstream.com web site, you will see that they refer to the Sport, Flying Cloud etc. models as Travel Trailers, which I guess is why we just call it the trailer. It's a very descriptive word, since it's a pull-behind that is trailing us down the road. If someone asks what kind of trailer we have, then I let them know that its an Airstream trailer. Maybe we will switch to calling it our travel trailer once we retire and can start doing more traveling!

We usually call it the trailer.

You should have our luck. Everyone always says, “Hey, nice Airstream!”
Um,... no,...

The camper-
The trailer-
The TV-
The Baked Potato-
Totally not offended by camper, although "camper" should describe ME- the person doing the camping- in a trailer...
The trailer is the most common name.
I refrain from saying "the Airstream" to not sound snobby.

I'm proud to own an Airstream but we refer to the rig as Rex (Tv) and Rosie (2015 27' Flying Cloud). When we take them out we tell the family we're going out for a little "R&R". Between my wife and I Rosie is the Trailer.
