It is funny- hard for me to say "camper" or "trailer" when referring to our 31 Classic- it is always "the Airstream"- not to be snooty, but more out of respect to"Abby", the name given her by the PO, named after her mother. She has safely brought us many miles and certainly given us many wonderful memories and new friends. The TV is always "The Dodge"-oh how my husband loves that Cummins diesel😄!

We most often refer to her a s "Lucy". All three of our Airstreams have been named Lucy. When talking to other folks, who are not acquainted with Lucy, we refer to her as the trailer.

As we head into a new year, it might be a good time to appreciate that the naming of our Airstreams creates mainly a "First World Problem" -- eh?

Most of the world would be happy to have such a problem . . .

PS "the trailer" is fine with us too.

I always refer to ours as an RV - I thought it sounded a bit snobbish to refer to it as "Our Airstream!"

This way, people generally ask what kind of an RV it is and I can then feel free to tell them so I can get to be proud of it hopefully without sounding pretentious - since it is they who have asked!

The Porsche and the Airstream... Seriously how Pretentious!

Hi from AZ. . . so as not to seem pretentious to anyone, when making a reservation, etc, I refer to ours as a 27 ft travel trailer. That rarely gets me included or excluded from anywhere. . . And they don't raise the price cause they heard Airstream. . . regards, Craig

It depends on the context. I think most people around here would call it a camper, RV, or trailer. In lumberjack country, there's no point in getting snooty about it.

There have been times, like when the staff person at an upscale RV park, learned that our trailer was (only) 19' and asked, "What year is it?" I looked her in the eye and said, "It's OK. It's an Airstream."

Between ourselves, we call it "Bambi." This gave us some funny looks among friends until we explained it was the name of the model.

It's our prerogative to call it what we want but it's also our admirers/haters to do the same! There are A LOT of more privileged people out there that will remind you quickly what money can buy for a "camper."
I remember my first 76 model. Admittedly it was a little rough until I restored it but was made to feel inferior more than once. I didn't lose sleep however.
Another time my buddy pulled his SOB into a spot next to me and on the other side was a snobby couple that wouldn't give us the time of day. Well, after a day or so the old grumpy guy and his snooty wife walked by and didn't speak so my buddy Keith said to them..."Hey I have a question, just how hot does the water get in that bus?" After getting no response he said..."I bet your beer is ice cold!"

We've had our Airstream in the family since it was new in 69. We always refer to it as "the Airstream" or simply "the trailer". We are not generally offended by what others may call our rolling haven but we tend to draw the line at "baked potato"
