Considering the large number of members in the forum it would be nice if more would participate in the polls so that we could get a better look at the big picture.

I can think of a number of reasons why: people don't like polls, non-members viewing or many of us have repeatedly reviewed this poll.

I have a '96 Caprice Classic (Body on frame design)
*LT1 (dynoed at 271hp and 345 ft/torque)
*Dual exhaust
*140amp alternator
*14k trans cooler
*Heavy duty cooling
*Oil cooler
* Mobil 1 synthetics front to back
*160* thermostat
* Secondary electric fan temp lowered
*Upgraded air intake (K & N FIPK--all baffles removed)
*Upgraded MAFand air foil
*Throttlebody bypass
*2000 Silverado trans pan (two additional quarts)
*Torque converter ram air cover (extra cooliing)
*Front air dams channeling air to the front rotors
*Moog rear cargo coils

In the future I will be placing 3.42 or 3.73 gears in the back and adding 17" Impala SS rims to replace the 15" rims currently installed.

This gets me about 10mpg highway pulling the Bambi. I normaly get about 21-22 without the Bambi.


As a side note the Envoy and Trailblazer now offer V8s (5.3L I think) in the EXT versions of the bodystyle.

I would give some serious thought to changing to a higher temp thermostat. There needs to be a certain amount of heat in an engine to vaporize the gas, if not it will wash the cylinder walls and you will end up with premature wear on the piston rings and cylinders. Also, the finer the gas is vaporized the more evenly and completely it burns. The ECM richens the mixture when the engine is cold, this low temp of a thermostat lengthens the time of rich running, if it ever gets out of it. If your cooling system is up to par it will remove the heat the engine generates with the proper thermostat and the engine will run stronger and longer.

I would also think long and hard about a 17" rim for towing. The tires are low profile, making the rim very close to the road and many roads are not forgiving to this setup. Look at the weight rating also, you could be overloaded when you add the trailer weight.

From driving a jeep product for the last 11 years (always v-8 grand w/tow prep) I never dreamed of the comfort, fit and finish that I have with my Suburban. I spent many hours on reshearching options and decided on the 2500 Suburban with quadrasteer. With the help of my local dealer I ordered the vehicle exactly as I wanted ( I have only bought one car off the lot in my life and that was a mistake I wll never repeat)
In addition to the q-steer, I got the 2nd row captains chairs that match the front two, extending camper mirrors, 4.10 gears, and block heater ($35.00 option-cheapest garage you will ever have) X-M radio and Onstar phone/gps.
I got all this for 0% for 60months (payments less than my 02 jeep grand and will take 100% of the suburban off my business takes this year. (it weighs enough to qualify)
And since the Surban has the ability to be in 2 wheel drive when I want (the jeep was full time 4 wheel drive) I am within 2 mpg and my 6 ltr Vortex is still breaking in. With a 37.5 gal fuel cell this Burb is all about business.
I am trying to find out just how many 2500 Q-steer Burbs are out there. My dealer tells me that it is the first one delivered in the state of Virginia. In the last year I have only seen one Q-steer burb and I am on the road alot. I see a fair amount of q-steer pick up trucks, but would love to hear from any one that sees a Q-steer burb!!!

Register one vote for the Hummer H2!

I voted for "Other" even though the H2 is is a GM product and even though it shares many components with the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon/XL full size trucks. So far it is a great tow vehicle -- the best (but only one) I have ever had.

I have always been partial to my old Jeeps.
I have a 1986 3/4 ton J20 fully restored and currently working on a Grand Wagoneer.
Now I just have to get something to tow. Thats why I joined this board - so I can research out exactly what I want to purchase and what problems to expect.
