I tow my 1979 31' Soveriegn with a 2009 Chevy 1500 pickup. It is a 4x4 LTZ with extended cab and regular bed. It has the Max-Tow package, 6.0 L engine, 6 speed auto trans, 3.73 differential (large diameter gear), heavy duty cooling on engine and trans. I have been averaging 12.5 mpg towing mostly through the eastern mountains. I have never needed more than the 367 hp that is has and am very happy with the way it tows.

This thread is now 8 years old and the numbers don't reflect the present. Maybe it should be started over.

I do find it interesting that even though Ford is the number one selling pickup in the US, GM trucks outnumber Ford in this poll. Maybe it has something to do with the reputation of the late Ford Diesels vs the GMs.
Yes, I would like to see a current poll just for curiosity's sake.

I've pulled A/S since 1979 except when I lost my way for 7 years pulling a 5th wheel. Chevy has been the best unit over all. I presently pull with a 2009 3500 Duramax Ext Cab. The only issue I have is the General error'd when it refused Dexter Mfg. offer to work with them in developing an intergrated Brake controller for the Electric over Hydrolic Disc Brake system. Bad decision.

2010 Chevy 2500HD. Overkill for a Safari 25 without additional load in the truck bed. My wife is a potter and we often camp when showing pottery at craft shows. When traveling to craft shows with the AS and the truck loaded with pottery and display, we will be at the limit of the trucks design capacity.

Not only that, but it also slanted.
Chevy/GMC and all the other manufacturers' brands are combined. However Chrysler and Dodge are separated thus skewing the result.

If the poll is accurate, and I doubt it is, more Airstreamers buy GM vehicles even though more people buy Ford 150's than GM pickups. Of course, this doesn't account for SUV's, so it doesn't mean much. The 2nd generation Tundra is much better for towing an Airstream than the 1st generation, but has been out for 4 of the almost 8 years of this poll. Now the results would probably show a higher percentage for Toyotas.

You also have to take psychology into account. If some people see that their make has a commanding lead they may be less likely to vote than someone who feels they are under-represented.
I think before we redo this poll, we better take a poll on how to do this poll.

Maybe another category: 'Airstream', TV...
Wouldn't it be cool to tool on down the road with a silver-painted Airstream Interstate/Sprinter towing a 20' Safari...

Hey, I worked for a guy who was into this. He would suggest that we do a fact finding activity first. Then forward this to the committee who would decide on the poll for the final poll. Of course, other groups could get involved if there were any "questions."
Sheesh, I really like being retired.
By the way, I agree with your take on this. Never really liked polls anyway. People see what they want to see, hear what they want to hear, etc.

It would be even cooler to tow a 34 slide out.
