I vote Private

Im a recent addition to this forum and have little feel for how or why these points are given. That said - I agree with the PRIVATE crowd. It should be used as a metod to privately re-inforce how you feel without the public humiliation of a posted reply.

This is not eBay, where you have a legit reason to grade the sales ond honesty of a person - everything on this forum is offered for FREE and you get what you pay for.

What on earth have we missed with the red/green stuff???????????????/ Private, I'd say. No need to flaunt and this is too nice a thing to have go competitive, which is likely to happen. If you are going to show ANYTHING, I'd say to go with how much Karma you've given: this speaks loads and might encourage others to join in the positives. Just some thoughts~G

I agree with seeing Karma Given, both red and green. If you got dinged you could see that member's scorecard and it would give you an idea whether they were thoughtful or just mostly mean spirited. I don't think a member with more red than green is necessarily bad--I'm sure we have some lovable grumps out there. But it might soften their "attacks" (read: constructive comments) if their red count was visible. On the other hand, we should never strive to be just a "happy and glad" outfit, IMHO. I like to say that when everyone thinks like the boss, nobody thinks very much. Consequently, if we're outspoken we'll step over the line now and then--a private admonishment is a good thing, particularly if the Receiver can evaluate it with respect to the Giver's record.

so sayeth the good book of do unto others as, well, you know ...

You give karma by clicking on the "Give karma" word under the posters name in the left column of a post.

You can see your karma by clicking on "User CP" at the top of the page. Then scroll down to the bottom. I will give you some karma right now so you can see what it looks like.

That's a question for a much larger forum than this.

That is a shame! I won't mention THAT color either as I don't want to incur the wrath of anyone either.

BTW, I just gave you karma with the hopes it will help cancel out the bad karma!

Oops! I forgot who I was talking with...or I should say I don't know which one of Over59 I was talking with...so I answered his question in a less philosphical manner.

Here is a definition of karma:

In Hindu belief where the term originated, it is the idea that the good and evil a person does will return either in this life or in a later one. Among Pagans, the theory is that whatever negative or positive energies one sends out will come back to the sender in like kind. The “Three Fold Law” is a version of this belief.

What they said.

I like keeping the karma private for all the same reasons other posters who want to keep it private already said.

Good karma to all.

I think publication would create negative and positive karma. I think as private support or respectful nay say it is a boon to me. Make it public and I would be embarrassed to give or receive it. We already have the option of agreeing or disagreeing publicly in a reply post.

Members could always post it now if they like.

We need to agree on how negative numbers would be displayed.

You could use a minus sign (mathematics), or parentheses (accounting), or red text color (financial).
