It's not the length of the airstream that makes for adventures it's how you use it.

Oh, I feel SOOOO inadequate now.....with only a little 23 footer....
Length is always such an issue, sometimes, even on the Airstream Forums!!
Maybe i should procure a Hummer H2 to pull the "Twinkasaurus" this summer... That way i could balance the scales, and truly make up for inadequacies in other departments!!!

Our trailer is only long enough to reach from the front ball to the rear bumper...
Okay, okay, it's 26',11.5" ball to bumper. Airstream calls it a 26, for reasons known only to them.

34' Triple axle
Interesting poll.
And I'd like to take the opportunity to say that in my opinion the 34' length gets a lot of undeserved bad press here. The weight difference between a 31' and a 34' is less than the difference between full and empty tanks for instance. The triple axles make the trailer much more stable and less prone to sway -- not more. The third axle makes much better "balance" as well.
I've read here where 34 footers were almost impossible to boondock in, but I regularly boondock in mine without ever having had a problem. The extra space is really nice.
Thanks for the poll!

Hi Marie -
I was just reading this thread and wondered if your 34' did scrape when you backed it in the driveway?
Do you like yours? I am very pleased with my 1986 34' Excella.

The longest they made
It is the longest they made in 1958 - Sweet Sovereign of the Road
and almost as light as the smallest one they make today!
Enjoy!

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The best length is the length you prefer. There are advantages and disadvantages in all Airstream lengths.

34'
Hi Waynon,
Yes, it does scrape some, but not too badly. We bought some heavy duty steel rollers but haven't welded them on yet.
We absolutely love our home on wheels!

25 Footer
Hi, mine is designated as a twenty five footer, but actually twenty five feet eleven inches long, according to Airstream.
Perfect size for us; And as some people have stated, the 25'er is the largest of the small trailers and the smallest of the large trailers. Shall we say, Happy Medium?

When I first joined the forum I would sometimes add my little two cents to a "dead" thread that was sometimes REALLY old. I was amazed sometimes at how others would just pick it up and run with it. Now it is one of my favorite things to do. Instead of starting a new thread about something I want to know I just 'bump' an old one and all the good stuff is there for the 'New' postings. This is a wonderful source of information!

Need to change my vote
When I originally voted in this polled a few years ago we had a 26' Overlander, then we upgraded to a 25' Sovereign and now were are in the process of upgrading again to a 28' Excella. Is there any way to change our vote in the poll? I'd like to update it from the 26-27' category that it is still being counted in to instead be in the 28'-29 category (I guess I've got to miss the intervening years where we had the 25'er).

Joe, we can't change our votes. We also upgraded from a 20' to a 26' to a 31'. Most folks here don't have that problem, though. They pick a trailer and stick with it...

34'
I'd like to echo what Waynon said on 3/23 "And I'd like to take the opportunity to say that in my opinion the 34' length gets a lot of undeserved bad press here. The weight difference between a 31' and a 34' is less than the difference between full and empty tanks for instance. The triple axles make the trailer much more stable and less prone to sway -- not more. The third axle makes much better "balance" as well."
I also read another veteran 34" owner who said "It's really no different than a 27', the extra 7' just follows the first 27'. The extra space is fantastic!!!!
We like the qualiy of the 87. The interior has been redone and we plan to have P and S refinish the exterior in August.
