Longer Airstreams

Diana Langley sayeth:"I was told that the reason a lot of 31' trailers are changing hands is that they are too big for most people that only go out on weekends or short trips and too small for full-timers."

I am glad some people think this way, as it caused me to get a real good deal on mine! Seriously, in my opinion, a longer trailer is easier to pull than a shorter trailer, as long as you have a tow vehicle capable of the weight. They also back up easier. Most of the time we go out for weekend jaunts on short trips, and the 31 feet has not hampered us in any way. Ideally, I would like to have two Airstreams, a 22 footer and a 34 Limited! A Skydecker would be nice to have to pull the 22 footer, so a family of one of our non RVing friends could join us! Dream on.

Smile 44 feet!

There's a 44 foot Spartan Imperial Mansion, dual axle, up for auction on e-Bay. I know its not Airstream, but it's aluminum. I can't even imagine towing anything that long.

interesting

Out of 75 people that polled:

65% have trailers 27' or short

and

43% have trailers 25' or shorter.

I now understand why more polled on tow vehicles have 1/2 ton over 3/4 ton.

I love this stuff!

More break down of infor

By the years(81 votes): 1974 or older 53%
1975-1990 27%
1990-2003 20%
(don't know the mix with motorhomes)

By the lenght(75 votes): 25' or less 43%
27' or less 65%
28' or greater 35%
(don't know the mix with motorhomes)

Tow vehicle by the tonnage(37 votes): 1/2 ton 51%
3/4 ton 38%
1 ton 10%

So this tells me that the avg forums member owns a trailer/motorhome 1974 or older, 25' or shorter and tows with a 1/2 ton vehicle.

I search for a poll on the avg age of the forum members, but could not find one. I'm guessing avg age would be at 45 yrs old, with more older than younger.

Guess you needs to get back on the road, way too much free time on my hands- john

Kevin,

Hey John ~

I found this old thread with a poll to determine the age demographic of forum members...it appears that 50% of the members that have voted (144) to date, are 49 years old or younger....

Greetings SilverTurtle!

Welcome to the Forum and the world of Airstreaming.

No, no plans to be buried in the Overlander, but it has been a part of my life in one way or another for so many years that I can't ever think of parting with it. My attachment is such that I have spent a tremendous amount on professional restoration services, but still have less than the cost of a new CCD invested in the rig.

The Overlander is a complement to my first car, a 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible that I purchased used in 1974 for $300.00. I still have that car, and plan to complete its restoration so that it can tow the Airstream to nearby rallys.

32 footer

I need all the bang for the buck I can get. We have a small craft business and when we go to shows the whole family goes, Me, my wife, a 4 year old and 9 month twins. We are on the road for up to two and a half months at a time.
I also tow a 12 foot cargo and I find the 32 footer easer to manuver at times.

With 1600+ forum members....

...and 175+ logins a day...are there really only 84 trailer owners?

If you haven't yet voted...please do! If you have...thanks!

AWRIIIGHT! Us 26/27 footers are kickin' butt. Axshully, couldn't remember if I'd voted before or not-----so I voted again. That's how us FLORIDIANS do it.

Dang, caught me, they don't usually count how many times you vote down here.

length?

Size doesn't matter, it's how you use it that counts!

Wallybyam, if that's true then I am suffering with delusions of adequacy!
