I'll have to let them know, although after readind these threads I'm not too sure what they would actually do for them. There is also some mild discoloration from condensation which seems to be of more concern to them. Maybe that would be incentive enough to get it taken care of.

I'm not sure either but as more detaches the heavier the pull gets. So the fix to take care of a small area may actually keep this problem from spreading. If there is discoloration, then maybe the problem is a leak?

No. they lived in if for several months this winter and it was a rather damp winter here... condensation.
