Best sources for finding a quality Airstream

I have been checking the classifieds on this site, rvonline, making some contacts with Airstream owners at a rally etc. This site has been a valuable tool as I have been increasing my "learning curve" preparing to buy my first travel trailer. Does anyone have any other suggestions for ways to find a good quality, mid 90's, 30' range model?

Regular old Classified Ads in your local paper (where we found ours), Craigslist (again it's mostly local), word of mouth from "those in the know" (WBCCI/VAC members) because people are always upgrading & swapping, local dealer (they may have some in on trade or consignment), Florida (lots of retired folks "give it up" from there), estate sales & auctions. Not sure what era/model parameters you are looking for but also the Vintage Airstream website has a classifieds section.

Good luck with your search ~

We are both on the same search pattern. Good luck tslanier, finding the “30’ range model”. I’m hunting for a 90's, 19' to 25' or max 28' in mint or excellent condition,; with a bed sized for two and hopefully a sofa and “dry bath” I’ll be watching to pick up the tips coming your way

I second that "eBay but be careful" by dwightdi. I have contacted eBay about 3 or 4 scam ads for an AT

.Each one looked like the exact same details and photos. EBay has pulled them all.

Some common keys were; the Sellers ID was different from the contact me now e-mail address or name, "don't contact me via eBays "contact the seller" e-mail", "delivery included", and not least of all was the incredible price for the "deal" that was and is “to good to be true”.

I have to add to check the catagory that it's listed in...this is a dead giveaway when an Airstream is listed under say..Birdfeeders....although there are some very crafty Airstream birdfeaders out there

Mine from eBay

I have said this in previous posts and will say it again "EBAY is the same as any other dealer" - it's BUYER BEWARE. I purchased mine from a very responsible owner 700 miles away. We hade lots of emils and he sent alot of photos. If it does not feel right than it's probably not a good deal.

Good luck in finding the right AS and hope it's the deal you're looking for.

Best Sources

I found an 87 34' Excella that was in very good shape at a reasonable price through the forums. We are doing some upgrades to the interior, new flooring, day/night shades, removing some of the curtains, reupholstering, fantastic fans, etc. The exterior sides are in good shape but the top has this black film on it. We are going to start with having it cleaned and waxed but will probably eventually take it to P and S to be stripped, polished and reclear coated. We are very excited with what we think we will end of with.

We found ours here under the classifieds. Pretty much satisfied we have had to do a lot of work on it but that is why we bought vintage and the price was great.

Send a message via Yahoo to cookeville34
We placed a "Wanted" ad in a couple of free papers, we had several calls and ended up buying one of them. Unfortunately, a much, much better unit popped up on Ebay very close to my home, so you take your chances on alot of these "deals".
