Are you a Multiple?
Okay, so we have been multiple Airstream owners now for about a year. I've noticed lots of other multiples based on their UserID profile info...but was curious as to how many of us are really out there? And why you have more than one.
Having to divide our attention to more than one ~ and always answer the question "Why do you need two?

Two is better than one. Three is company, four is the score. Five is something to strive for. Six is sick, but seven is heaven!

I have two, but I never set out to have more than one. There was just a cute little Caravel along the side of the road with a "For Sale" sign on it, that seemed to be calling my name. Our original intention was to fix it up and sell it, but about halfway through the project, we both said, "I'm not sure I could part with it." I still have no answer when people ask, "Which one would you sell?" I love them both. I always keep an eye out for another project, too (although I would have to find more space to store it as well).

We have two for individual domain, additional space, and the flexibility to travel two directions at once, or caravan together, or stagger our schedules to meet up or wander off seperately. We can swap them or double up, use the medium one for longer trips or the smaller one to fit in small places. I certainly wouldn't mind a 20' Argosy motorhome though or a SkyDeck...or a Base Camp...dream on...

We have the 310 moho for towing the smaller rig (smaller car on flatbed trailer) and doing bigger camping and the 20' Argosy moho for towing the Excella with two small cars in it (once we finish the Argosy AND the Excella car-hauler, that is...) and doing smaller camping.

Only one but that is all there is room for. I have room in the back but would have to remove part of the studio to get back there, and it is too small as it is. Karen is not allowed to park her car in my studio.

We are holding tight at three. However - when a 56 or 57 Caravanner comes along we'll change that to four...

Are you a Multiple?
I had never really planned to purchase a second Airstream as my Overlander was my dream coach. My first encounter with what would become my Minuet was at the Sioux Falls, South Dakota WBCCI International Rally. Up until that time, I had never heard of a Minuet and didn't really know that there was anthing unusual about the coach. That initial encounter planted the seed, and I began reading about and researching the Argosy line. Two years later, I began an informal search for a Minuet when I ran across an advertisement in the VAC classifieds for a '78 Minuet located in Indiana. I contacted the owner almost immediately (less than 30 minutes after the advertisement was posted). To my shock, it was the coach that I had seen at the Sioux Falls, SD International, and the original owner was retiring and had purchased a larger Airstream for traveling. The Minuet followed me home less than a week later.
I don't think that I will ever add another coach, but based on my collector cars, I know better than to say never.

I love my Trade Wind. If the right smaller vintage unit comes along, I'll need to sweet talk Jan about that...

Well, we started with an '05 Int'l CCD but found that we wanted more when we began researching Airstream's history. We found a cute '67 Globetrotter on ebay an hour from home. We had to drive to mid Ohio for our '61 Overlander Int'l but love it more than the first two. Not far from home again (5 miles) is soon to be #4 a '62 Globetrotter- as soon as we see the owner fishing there this spring. I would not describe our passion as overboard but our neighbors would. They are like collectible cars but much better on gas and insurance. #5 ('53 Flying Cloud) & #6 ('56 Cruiser Overlander) will be 13 panels we found while dropping the '67 off for restoration. Aluminitis is so infectious! Some people are Ford people and some are Chevy people- we are Airstream people. And of course everything is for sale for a price- so its not to say we wouldn't part with one down the road- but the process of the restoration is half the fun of it. The other half is the joy of looking in your rearview mirror and having to squint!

2 is better
I never really thought about having 2 but my Safari turned into much more of a redo that originally anticipated so I wanted something that was ready to use. Plus, the recently acquired Bambi sat in that storage lot for a long time and was screaming for someone to take care of it.

We've had two at a time, though most of the "number 2's" were parts sources for the primary trailer. The only time we've had two "real" ones, we were looking to sell the second trailer.

But I'm sure I can't afford it!
I would never give up my '61 Bambi but would love to have a 20 to 23 foot preferably dual axle but I could be persuaded. Ahhh, if wishes were....

We Have Three.........................
Well,
Why do we have 3? First there's the wedding gift thing. We told the girls they each get a restored Airstream for a wedding gift or a PHD gift what ever comes first and then one for me. That requires 3 to start with. Then it goes to the thought process I need one for long trips, one for short that leads me down the 2 Airstreams in the drive path, one in storage and one done waiting for the wedding, now it is 4. Then you have the issue of the 68 was from a Unit member that was concerned with a young couple with kids in a 61 24' and not having enough room so I'll cut you a deal. Then the 68 can never be parted with because of the Kings and the 10 years of memories of fun we had with it. The 59 and 4 years of putting it back together and then the oldest telling me it's hers. The 88, heck man that's my dream trailer and I just had to have John Becker's trailer so that stays.
I'm now short one becasue Elaine needs a trailer, so all in all I'm destined to be a 4 trailer owner.
Ed
Don't worry if you can't follow this because I'm still trying to find room for the 4th.

Carol, not much progress to report. The trailer was used in a deer camp for about 10 years and the inside was in REALLY bad condition when we got it. Thats when we decided to turn it into a car hauler. The only work that has been done to date is gutting the trailer. Susan and I have moved a couple of times since we bought the trailer and we just haven't had time to work on it. I'm really hoping next year will be the year that I can actually work on it .
I'll try and dig up a picture of one that was done the way I plan on doing ours.
