After much deliberation...I just ordered a Dell Precision 4400...my 4th laptop and 3rd Dell. Came close to MacBook Pro...but went for one more PC due my knowledge "investment" in PC world...and the fact that my Dells have really been quite stable and reliable. Only one "malware" in 12-15 years and that was one where I ignored a security warning when downloading some HP printer software...thought it must have been an error

My wife will use my old Dell for a bit as she determines what her "style" needs are...very possible that in about a year we will replace that five+ year old Dell with a new MacBook Pro...I have wanted to return to Mac since the old Macintosh Plus...no hard drive and small black and white screen. Business applications and MS Office made it impossible to do so until about now...MS Office Mac is "close" to universal file compatibility with MS Office PC...new MS Office Mac 2011 or 2012 will likely complete that goal.

Already feel bad...a new MBP would sure have been fun and they sure are "pretty".

BTW...I bet my nearly five year old Dell will seem like a "snail" when I get the new Precision...All speed features...from the wireless data transfers, the dual core chip, the much faster hard drive and the discrete video card should be noticeable.

I hope my 3-5 year experience with this new Dell is a good as the five years with my current Dell...but it still will never be a Mac...kind of like an SOB vs an AS

Tom

But Macs operate so easily that you don't need to know anything.

Hi Gene...ya I know

I use MS Excel extensively in my consulting practice and from my research on Mac sites...there is still some file compatibility issues with 2008 Excel for Mac. Can't have that as I exchange files with client's frequently and use at home and at client sites.

Also, my next door neighbor purchased an iMac last Spring and loves it...but...she finds it does not work with one of her favorite "investment" web sites and also one of her work related real estate web site...she is a realtor. The real estate site is working with Apple to try and find out what the issue is...

That plus the fact that we will be buying my wife a replacement for my old Dell in about a year (our chance to buy Mac) led me to buy one more Dell PC for my business activities...likely won't need for business in 2-3 years.

I guess NO aluminum for me at this point...Tom

We have both; Apple desktop and notebook, plus our old Dell desktop for dad's non-mac software.

Now that I started counting, we have 4 Macs—a 17" last of the Powerbooks, a retired year 2000 Powerbook, an eMac, and a very old Quadra. The old guys need to get disposed of when it's easy to do.

Please ... this thread needs a bullet in the head. The Mac/PC thing is too old too easy and just needs to be put away for ever!!!

New MacBook user.

By the way - is there a secret thing that mac users do with the apple decals? I'd hate to misuse mine and be ridiculed as being one of the great unwashed.
