well that may be true for most lock/key issues...

but not the a/s door bits...

i went to a large well regarded long standing locksmith shop...

they've done keys for me for years....

the blanks were close for the door/deadbolt....

but once cut did not work.

yes they could have special ordered the correct blank...

at 2x the price of buying via mail from jackson center.

the blanks available and sold by the a/s company store do work....

they are cheap so buy 4-6; take these to your local shop for cutting as needed.

just to clarify...

there is no 'wild goose chase' in downtown jackson center.

it's about 3 blocks east on the ONLY main street....

the fellow who owns the h/w store is a former electrical engineer/designer for airstream...

they will cut your keys FOR FREE....

and as an bonus answer questions about 'why they put that wire there?'

cheers

Well, I didn't drive through Jackson Center so I'm sure you are right, but when it's 2:00 in the afternoon and you planned on leaving at 10:00 and you have a 10 hour drive ahead of you and have to get up at 5:30 the next morning to put in a full day at work, anything can seem like a wild goose chase.

I did get the blanks and one day I'll stop procrastinating and get them cut as soon as I remember to look for a hardware store with a real key lathe. I know if I do get locked out in the interim I will have no one to blame but myself. 'Till then, I just hope my luck holds out.

Hey, we didn't get any chairs with our Airstream. What made you so special? When we buy our next one will you come with us so we get some chairs?

Did you by any chance get jackets and hats? We didn't get chairs either, but we did get the jackets and hats. I think it's because we didn't have a built in place to store the chairs.

We were given a coupon to fill out and mail to a company that makes the jackets and hats. It took about 2-3 months for them to arrive. I do remember there was an expiration date on the coupon, but I think it was 60 or 90 days after purchase not a specific date like October 1, 2006 or something like that. Maybe Airstream discontinued the gifting program and are no longer giving the jackets or the chairs...they are about $80-$90 each for the chairs. But that is a small amount compared to the cost of a new Classic.

Hi, we got the hats and jackets, but had to wait about six months to get them. As for the folding chairs, My understanding was that the chairs only came with the Classic models and was part of the writeing table, just inside of the door. The chairs fit inside of the table frame.

We got our jackets and hats. It took about 2-3 months. It was part of the "LS" package back in 2004. If you got a slideout or the "limited" back then, you also got chairs. Since all Classics are now limited, I don't know what the process is for the chairs.

Odd...looking at the Airstream website the lesser Safari line as part of the LS package still has jackets and caps and if you get a 28' or 28' slide, chairs too. You'd think the Classics would by default get jackets and caps, unless they changed it. I'd contact the factory. Sometimes the dealer paperwork gets lost in the shuffle....

I see no mention of jackets or jackets or caps anywhere in the "Classic" line.

Then again, Airstream's website isn't the best at current info......

Come to think of it, we knew about the jackets and caps from this website and I asked the dealer about it at the time of delivery. Otherwise, we wouldn't have got them either. I also asked about the first year of WBCCI for free and got a blank stare and was told the dealer didn't know anything about it. Later I found out that that had been discontinued a couple of years ago.

We got the chairs as a standard issue with our 2004 Classic, and the hats and jackets as part of the multi-thousand dollar "Limited" option.

None of these items were worth nearly as much as I'm sure Airstream charged for them. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but the Zip Dee chairs seem to be an uncomfortable leftover design from a bygone era, and while the jackets weren't entirely bad, my wife would never wear that design, and we'd both rather have something like gore tex windbreakers which are more suited to modern Airstreaming.

I think this is one of the improvements stated in this thread....better dealer network.

Our first dealer for example, tried to tell us that a fire extinguisher was not standared equipment when we asked where the extinguisher was......

A call to Airstream not only got one sent out to us, but got one sent out and in my hands 2 days after I hung up the phone.
