polishing end caps
Thanks,
Im thinking I need to get on the end caps before I start on the interior. Don't want to make a mess and it is messy. I saw a video of a guy using the method you mentioned but his first step was with 400 grit sand paper followed by 800 then on to the polish. I used 200 on my rear end cap and it didn't take anytime at all taking off the corrosion or pitting. I haven't yet tried to polish it up yet with a finer grade polish like nuvite C. I plan on doing that and see if I can get a shine back into it.

1954 airstream
Still waiting for my interior aluminum to arrive. While Im waiting I went through and ran tests on all my ac circuits. Making sure all my switches and light connections work before the skin goes on. Everything checked out good. My second layer of insulation is in. Does anybody know anything about a drain hose for the ac? I ran a dedicated wire to the location but didn't think about a drain line. How big and where should I run it?

No problem, I think we all develop our own techniques when it come to polishing.

inner skin
Finally getting around to skinning the inside. Decided to go with .032 5052 4x10 foot sheets. Ran then length wise forward. Figured the sheer strength wood be greater and also less cutting. Only cutting the 4' side instead of the 10ft. Not that big of deal. Ive overlapped them anyway. Too hard to get a good fit butting them on 3/4inched. Im hoping to not forget any of my wires and have her all skinned up by the beginning of the month. Time consuming cutting out all the 110 boxes and drilling the rivet holes. Went down to harbor freight and invested in a air drill and rolling table. helps a lot to have the tools. Here are some picts

1954 cruiser under shell
Got the old girl all riveted up inside with fresh aluminum. Went with .032 5052. Think I paid $39 a sheet for 4x10. Took 8 I believe to do the job. Ran them length wise for maximum sheer strength. Both end caps are polished to the second stage. Made a mess. Still need to put the cyclo 5 on them. Got one tonight on eBay for $150. Hope it runs.
roughed up all the inside skin with 230 sand paper to prep for paint. I will caulk all the seams tomorrow, tape it off and shoot it with at air gun. I plan on using a low voc paint but not sure what just yet. Im thinking a auto paint might work the best. Here are some picts hope they are straight this time

got my solar panels up. Went with go power 200 watt system with the pass through. Ran the cables down through the street side wall. Should fit nice. I used 3m double sided tape then sealed the edges with sikaflex 221. I wish I would have been a little neater with the sealant. You can see the edges of the panels if you look hard. I still need to aluminum tape the cables down

1954 cruiser under shell
Thanks Doug,
Thats the encouragement I need. I just finished painting the inner skin. Taped off the front and back ends that are polished. Went with delicate white acrylic latex paint. Put too much primer on with the neighbors airless sprayer. Didn't go so well. The gun spit and I had the wrong nozzle. After two days of sanding the runs out I went and bought my own gun from Harbor freight ($189 on sale). I did it right. Im happy with the final product. Picts to follow.
Im thinking of laying up some panels of wood maybe 3ft wide along the sides that border the polished aluminum. I bought 1/4 luan because I couldn't find the birch I wanted. I will test some pieces with stain to see if I can get the look Im after. Does anybody have some advice on attaching paneling to the aluminum?

Held on by trim
My birch panels are not attached to the skins at all, but held in place by flat bar trim pieces.

wood paneling
I bought some luan....got it home and didn't like the looks of it so I returned it and got some 1/4" oak. Cut a piece to fit next to the end cap. Not liking it either. Im probably going to go with some different shades of tongue and groove. Im hoping it won't be over the top because I really want wood flooring.

flooring
Im debating laying down my flooring before I begin to build the cabinets. Any insight on that? I really wanted to use a fossilized bamboo. Problem is its heavy and not cheap.
Also....I installed shallow electrical boxes for all my 110 outlets. Im finding out that the 12/2 wire does not bunch up well in that tight space. Has anybody solved that problem?

cabinets
Getting ready to start building cabinets. Curious what folks are using for cabinet depth. I plan on laying down cabinets on curb side along with street side where the sink will be located.

In a regular kitchen, common practice is to run the hardwood floor throughout the whole space, and then place the kitchen cabinets on top of the floor.
BUT, in a trailer, where weight is the enemy, I'd mount the cabinets and then place the hardwood floor up to the cabinets.
Just a thought.

floor
I figured the whole floor is going to weigh around 300. 50lbs a box and I might use 6., about 200 more then if I waited till after the cabinets ; because I used heavier gauge steel for the frame and a 6k axle I went ahead and put it down. Easier and cleaner look. .Picts to follow. Thanks for your input. Cheers, Mike

picts of interior. Decided to paint the rear endocap. Sucks after all the time spent polishing. Just thought it was too dark and I really couldn't get the luster back after so much sanding of the aluminum. Looks better I think white. Also painted the rear bed. Used nature bamboo for flooring.
