Airstream in the house

Brought the door inside anyway, time to get rid of the blue paint, replace the screen, repair the bargman handle/lock and reinforce the door around the lock.
I think the lock is called a bargman L-55??

The lock and handle work well but after taking it apart I found the front side of the lock seams to be patched together with some wood blocks?? Are there pieces missing?

Airstream didn't spend to much time on the insulating the door in 1954.

It looks like the original screen was brass and it so happens I found a roll of old brass screen in my Dads collections this past summer, so hoping I have enough to do all the windows in brass.

Wood is used very commonly in the doors. It keeps the lock set from crushing the door.

The pics of the inside of your door are great. A couple of weeks ago I was looking for information on how the handle and bezel were mounted. I made up my own solution but it's nice to see how it was done, thanks. Let me know if you have problems with the lock cause I have a few extra pieces from mine and would love a reason to come visit

Thanks Frank, With the wood in there it looked like something I would have done out on the road somewhere. It just looked like it was missing something.

Thanks Brad, If this is the way the lock and handle setup is supposed to be I will just clean it up, install a new lock cylinder and replace the wood blocking to toughen up the door a little.
Visits are always good anytime, still don't have doors on the barn though, so gets a little cool some days.

I way over thought how to mount my door handle. I am surprised at how simple some of the methods and solutions were when your trailer was built. Ill chat with Time tomorrow and see if we cant find a good time for a visit, It would be fun to catch up and see Nellie

Entrance door

Reassembled the entrance door today, replaced the old wood blocking around the lock, replaced the screen and polished the inside. Need to make a new latch handle and door pull on the inside. Nice to be done with the sky blue on the inside.

Looks good Doug. Was there any old zolatone under the blue paint, and if so, how difficult was it to strip the paint down to the aluminum?

Spike,
No zolatone on the door, I think the aluminum was replaced at one time. When we stripped the inside end caps the zolatone was very stubborn to get off. I don't know how some of the people on here do a complete trailer, we were tired of it after just the ends and the upper cabinets. Maybe they use the real toxic stuff that melts your skin to if it gets on you.

It also helps to be a little bit crazy. Then, even though you are tired of stripping after a single wall panel, your perverse sense of work lets you finish it. :-)

After much paint scraping/stripping, you may just ask yourself, at $101 for a clean sheet of 2024 T3 .032 aluminum, should you just replace or persevere. Add in the cost of the stripper and the recycle value of the old panel.

Wardrobe cabinet

Finished roughing out the wardrobe cabinet tonight and set in place. Also wired in a switch for the power to the cruiser so I didn't have to keep unplugging the lights.

Got the bathroom squared up and the pantry cabinet framed up yesterday. Reused the the front frames of both but the side panels were in tough shape so just used them for patterns. Brought the Cruiser out so it was closer to the shop and saved a little walking to test fit everything.

The first two trips are booked, The first one is only 50 miles on Memorial day, we thought that would be a good distance for a test drive. I am always looking for the next project, I should really finish a few that are already started and have been delayed because of aluminitus.

Sink Base

Got a start on the sink base today. Nothing to reuse for this cabinet, except as a template, the original was in pretty tough shape.

Just found this, the auction ended last year, what a nice trailer and a nice price. Timeless Travel Trailers did a great job. I think I would have to sell the Cruiser for that price:-) http://www.benefitevents.com/auction...02&eventid=693
