Getting older
I worry about the heavy lifting of stuff like a generator into my truck bed.
Are there any gadgets to help with that?

400-500 watts of solar on the roof and lithium batteries come to mind. At a price. Or, making sure you always have shore power.

Or one of those winches that can be installed in the bed of the pickup truck. Harbor Freight is one of many sources...

I just found a helpful item for the truck. Check out the Traxion tailgate ladder. Just ordered one to try. Looks like a great idea, rather than the under bumper steps that fold out, that you can't use when the Rock Tamers and hitch are on the truck. Not a lot of money from Amazon, and worth a try!!

I second the bed crane. They fold up pretty narrow and out of the way. I found a good deal on a used electric wheelchair lift and modified the base to fit in the passenger side corner of the bed. Main reason I wanted a bed crane was just in case I got injured or threw out my back I could still manage to load and unload the gen set, hitch stinger, heavy things my wife buys etc.

I bought an el-cheapo bed crane that uses a bottle jack to swing the arm up, from Harbor Freight about 5 years ago and had it mounted rear curbside in the bed just a few inches from the tailgate. They guys who mounted it positioned it to be over the frame and bolted through to the frame. Makes hauling my 3000-watt el-cheapo generator (also from Harbor Freight) a piece of cake.

Sure.
Here's what I use and I have a 145# generator.
It's a hydraulic table from Harbor Freight, 1000# capacity (because it goes higher) I leave the generator on it in the garage, lowered. Then I roll it to the truck, raise it up with a foot pedal, about 15 pumps, and scootch the generator into the bed. It remains there until I'm home and reverse the process.
The thing is built like a tank, and I used a 20% off coupon to buy it.

Hi, I have a Yamaha 2400 generator. It weighs about 75 lbs. I can, and have lifted it, but I have off and on back problems so I don't push it. I modified a small mover's dolly to fit the rubber feet on my generator and store it in my garage like this. I also have a plywood ramp that I made about 30 years ago. I lean the ramp on my tailgate and push my generator, on the dolly up the ramp into the bed of my truck. I have a tie down system which holds my generator in the bed where it stays while traveling. I run my generator while in the bed.

can it just mount on the bed or does it need reinforcement , I don't think I will be lifting more then 150 lbs at a time

The beam of the crane extends. With the beam pushed in: 1,000 lbs; with the beam fully extended: 500 lbs. The mechanism is very simple - it uses a bottle jack to raise and lower the beam. There is a pin to set the length of the beam and another to secure the rotation of the beam for travelling. When I bought mine HF had a 50% off coupon, so it only cost me $50 to buy it. The tech who installed it charged me $50 as well - best $100 I ever spent.

I'm disabled and had to sell my AS because of it (even lifting my honda 2000s is out of the question!). Now I'm in a van, but still having to find solutions for being unable to lift anything. This could just be not only the answer for me, but an AFFORDABLE one at that!
