We have run into a pretty large snag. We went to make the rear window, which was missing, and realized it was not like the other windows. It almost appears to need two windows in it. One inside and one out. But that can't be right. Instead of having the normal push rods to extend it; it has holes for two hand levers inside bottom. The window fram has a hinge at the top but that also has the main gasket on it...

I can post pictures later, but I thought maybe some had knowledge about the 50's rear windows such as these. Pictures would be a blessing!
The back window is also a fire exit. It has 2 frames, the outer frame is riveted to the trailer and also has the 2 levers in the bottom. Then the inside frame has the glass in it and is hinged at the top, if there is a fire you open the latches at the bottom to get out.
I can get you pictures of mine if you need them.
Doug

I have the same window in my Liner, but it was missing the latches at the bottom. I would appreciate any pictures of the latches.

Thanks,

Bill

The latches at the bottom, on my trailer, are the same ones that are used to latch the window.

Hmmm

It sort of makes sense, but I would need to see pictures of it. If I understand correctly the interior frame (which holds the glass) is hinged at the bottom? and folds in??

Pictures will resolve it...the PO had caulked the window to oblivion so that it was hard to tell what moved where...

Thanks for getting help everyone...

Colin,

I purchased two levers from Steve, but I think that I will have to cut off the return in order for them to allow the window to open completely. Correct?

Bill,
I believe they are the same as used on my 57 Sovereign of the Road rear escape hatch/window. I'll check on Monday.

Progress

Well I have been in the full swing of renovation. I wish I could be more active on the forums, but polishing takes a lot of time!! Lets see what I have done lately:

tinted and 'rebuilt' existing windows
fabricated two new windows
rebuilt the door
finished the first phase of polishing
installed 3 new fantastic fans
rebuilt hatch door
replaced two old exterior panel patches
replaced and welded three street side outriggers
replaced floor under the kitchen and bath
replaced and entire exterior side panel
and a few other things

Soon i will be:
redoing the electrical
roughing in the plumbing/installing the precision temp
installing the dickinson p12000
building a new bathroom
...and well finishing the interior

I have 4 weeks till I need to be at a "liveable" point and while I think it may be crazy, I look back on what we have done in the last 4 weeks and really think its gonna happen. I am mostly relying on the expertise of my brother Chris. I have now gone in debt to him by one trailer renovation.

I have been documenting the process in more depth on our blog But here are some pictures for the forums....
