Cali Whale Tail 26' in SC

Hello All,
The wealth of information this site has is amazing. Can you help us get started? We just purchased our first Airstream. She is super cute but needs work. I can not find another floor plan that is exactly the same. He title is incorrect and states she is from the 40s but her tag say she is from the mid to early fifties. We are going to do the work over time ourselves and restore her to as original as possible. We've only had her a few days so any information you can give us will be appreciated. She's a west coast girl in an east coast world.
Thank you

Hello cbawin;
That Romany looks like it has many stories to tell. I wonder if this link matches your floorplan: https://web.archive.org/web/20140406...320baf3b02.pdf

This second link is for the archive index, in case you want to explore:

We are neighbors - I'm in Spartanburg - hope to hear more of your progress. Good luck.

Ours has twin bed in the rear with a tiny center bath. This is the only close floor model or image I can find on the web that has our cabinet style and bathroom in the same spot. Ours is in the 6000s on the plate by the door.

There was a 19' Flying Cloud from 1953 on a site that looks like it on the interior. Except ours is a longer AS with a whale tail. I don't even really know if ours is a Cruiser or Romany or what but this picture shows the cabinets in the front should look like when ours are stripped.

We have the Preway stove and Marvel Icebox. Everything needs to be stripped. The front top needs work as well as the front floor.

There are so many incredible restorations that are anything but "as close to original" that are far more beautiful and efficient. Are you sure you want to put all that work into making it as close to original? Put "Restored Airstream Interiors" into Google Images and take a look. The work will be almost the same but the results far superior.

Hello retrofit59 and cbawin....There are a number of Airstreamers in the upstate. I am also in Spartanburg and a member of Palmetto State Airstream Club a chapter of WBCCI and the Vintage Airstream Club. Your 50's Airstream looks to be in pretty good shape. If it is livable, Palmetto State is having a rally next weekend at Palmetto Cove RV Park which is where we are head quartered so to speak. Our members would love a chance to see your trailer. Several of our members have vintage trailers and there is always much interest in them. We may also be able to help with your restoration. If nothing else answer questions and give advice or information.

You both would be welcome to come up for a visit during any of our rallies. You may also be interested in getting our monthly newsletter via e-mail.

Thank you so much! We are interested in the rally but ours is not livable quite yet. She is so cute though! I think I could manage to live in her with tin foil repairs. I am interested in the newsletter also. Any help with restoration is very welcome.
Our first priority is repairing the front cap and the front floor board. Learning to rivet and put that nice beaded edge with buck rivets will be a challenge.

I am in Charleston, and am a few months ahead of you in re-doing my vintage 31'. Completely.

Elected to do a custom rehab, leaving what few original items were still there and useable - some lighting fixtures and storage shelves mostly. The rest will be new.

If you are ever this way, let me know and we can play show and tell.

We will be down to visit family on IOP. We would love to show her off and also see your progress. We like to save the vintage items as well. Do you have any recommended local airstream groups, clubs or facebook pages?
