Would Love An Argosy Minuet

Hi Folks,

My wife and I are located in Lake Norman NC, and after six months or so of searching, have decided on an Argosy, rather than an AS. Don't want to do all that polishing . We'd like a smaller one eventually we'll upgrade the interior ourselves. I guess what we need is 22ft or under, pretty good shape (able to camp in it and have fun) trailerable for under 4K...We have jobs that would allow us to travel for the right coach...Any comments, advice..BS all appreciated!

Hope thats not asking too much!

Thanks,
Dave

Argosy Minuets were the top two on our short list when we were looking for an AS last year for the reason you have stated (exterior restoration and maintenance).

We drove 800 miles each way to pick up ours. Good luck with your search!

I saw 2 on the Airstream.com classifieds over the weekend. One for $9,500 and one for $4,500.

Would Love An Argosy Minuet

Greetings Dave!

The Minuets are certainly fun coaches with a personality all their own. I was always intrigued by the Argosy line, but the Minuet is among the more unique Argosy offerings. The three models available included the 6.0 Metre, the 6.7 Metre, and the 7.3 Metre. The production run began in 1977 and ended in 1979 - - it is clear that the 6.0 Metre was produce all three years; what is less clear is precisely when each of the larger coaches was introduced. The factory showroom literature only lists the 6.7 Metre and 7.3 Metre coaches in 1979. A scan of the '79 Minuet catalog page is found below:

The floorplans shown were consistent throughout the run with the primary variable being the layout of the front living area - - in all three lengths, the customer could choose between the front lounge or dinette. It seems that there is very little "neutral ground" regarding the preference of dinette or lounge - - I know that I was thrilled to find that my Minuet had the front lounge. The 7.3 Metre was also available with either the double-bed arrangement shown in the scan above or twin beds placed on either side of the central aisle.

Good luck with your search and research!

Kevin

Thumbs up Good Choice

These were posted on another thread last week for someone looking for an Argosy (Minuet??).

1975 Argosy, (Airstream), 22', self-cont, AC, lots of storage tows easily, sleeps 3-4, restored in 2000. $3200/obo. 406 248-1869 or 406 860-8882
Billings, Montana

1977 Argosy Airstream, Minuet 19' single axle, $2700. http://www.myloss.us 509-671-2447 Newport (near Spokane, Wash)

ARGOSY '78 by Air Stream, Minuet. 21ft. deluxe model. Good cond. $3500. 208-788-6188. Leave msg. Twin Falls, Id.

Don't know if they are still available or not, but always worth trying. The Minuets really seem to be picking up steam on people's want list and, therefore are becoming a bit harder to find in the best condition. So, be aware that at those prices it is more than likely the trailer will need some pricy work. We paid over $4,000. 2 yrs ago, and ours was usable right off the bat, BUT, we are now replacing: Water heater, kitchen galley top & faucet, sewer valves, all bedding foam, carpet, possibly bathrm sink, possibly grey water tank, new axle next year, plus all the little nick-nacks for decorating that make her special. Is worth it by far, and we do it in spurts to decrease the shock. Still, you should be aware and pay wisely. In, other words, cheap is not good if you don't know all the ins and outs of the trailer - there can be some expensive surprises. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

1977 Minuet

Just saw a 1977 Minuet here in Eastern NC for sale in decent shape. It hasn't been used in 2 years, originally from CA. One dent / crease front road side. No awning, but hardware is all there. Front dinette, rear bath. Asking $2400, but said would take $2100. It is near Jacksonville, NC home of Camp Lejeune. It needs a good cleaning. I might go get it for myself.

Argosy 22?

Not sure if this one we saw in Oshkosh has sold yet, but it was 1973 Argosy 22, just painted in polyurethane aircraft white, with front dinette and rear bath... Looked almost new on outside, and was there with For Sale signs in window and Illinois license plates.. Price asked was $7500, phone (309) 235-7766.. Photo was posted in early August under thread "Airstreams at Oshkosh"

I guess that this isn't a Minuet, but it is a very reasonably priced Argosy (assuming you're willing to travel to Northern California).

Not a Minuet, but nice

There is a 28' Argosy in nice condition at a small used RV dealer along highway 290, just west of Austin, TX. It has been there for a while, so they might deal.

I went through it a while back when I stopped there for propane. Outside and inside are in unusually good condition for an old trailer. All tambour doors except one are there and all work well except two are stuck. Cabinets need some refinishing and carpet is pretty sad.

If you are interested, PM me and I'll look up a phone number for the dealer. I can easily go by and look at it again if you want a fuller description of condition.

If I was looking for a day-to-day usable trailer to restore, I would surely consider this one.

You may already know of this web site:

http://www.argosytrailer.com/

I was just noticing how nice the window layout is on the later Minuets. Even a 19 footer has 3 large street side windows.

Good luck hunting,

Steve
