What size or number battery for '77 24-footer

I looked in my owners manual for my 1977 Argosy 24' double, and it is not listed. Does anyone know what the number or size of the biggest battery that will fit in the stock battery compartment?

If the compartment still has the battery tray. You can measure it. My guess would be a Group 24.

The battery compartment should be large enough for a group 27.

My 1975 Sovereign has a Group 27 in it. FWIW in 1975 it has a quick disconnect cable.

My '74 Argosy 26' has a Group 24 and it is a tight fit. They may have increased the capacity in the '77 to a Group 27. It is best if you measure the compartment.

I am pretty sure you will find that a group 24 is all that will fit in the Argosy original compartment.

I do not have the battery tray. I will check out the group 24 & 27 and will report back on what fits. What type of battery is the best value from a cost/power comparison?

If you are not doing a lot of boon docking. Get a Marine/ RV type from Wal- Mart. Since it's main purpose will be for the brakes if you lose the trailer while towing. Many of the new converters will do just fine powering the 12 volt system, even without a battery while on Shore power.
