What are these switches for?

I was mounting a break-away switch on the A-frame of my 1977 22' Argosy and found these two switches on the back side of the plate for the electric jack as it goes thru the A-frame. It looks like we have an OEM electric jack which has it's own switch mounted under the motor, so I don't think it's related to that. Here's a pic. Anyone have any ideas what they may be for?

Some people add switches to disable the break away switch and the jack. This prevents someone from pulling the pin and burning up the magnets or lowering the hitch to the ground. Maybe, just a thought....

Good thought AZF.....but we switched them on and off and the electric jack still worked both ways.

The switchs are after market. It's my guess that at one time someone hooked up some outside lights. They don't look like exterior service switchs.

The first thing I would do is see if they have any power to them - check with a meter. Then I would attempt to trace the wires to see where they go. Giood luck with that one.

Shhhhh Jim....

it's a secret Argosy thing. It's like a secret handshake. Two down when surrounded by silver. Two up when another white one is by. One up and one down when both are by..........

Or.....

Better go check mine out. I'm pretty sure I don't have any .... course, all my white is gone too!

David,
Good suggestion......I see now that there's two bolts holding the bracket in place. I'll remove these to see where the wires go (if anywhere). I've owned the Argosy for 4 months and still finding new things out about it!

I'll report back (but don't hold your breath).......I took it over the mountains this weekend to store it (130 miles away). We co-own it with a couple that will travel in it on the south-bound leg of the Capetown to Cairo Caravan.

Mark,
I'm afraid those secrets are not mentioned in my owner's manual.......are they in yours? Is there a secret Argosy Owners Society I'm missing out on?
BTW....do you (or anyone else) have a service manual you would be willing to share on Argosys. I can't see shelling out $60 for a service manual when most systems are generic.

They may be for the cloaking device.

Must be a PO option, none on mine or in the manuals... Good Luck

service manual...

sorry Jim, I don't. Sometime ago, I bought the copy of a owner's manual.... don't waste your money (I misplaced it, but I'd offer a copy if I did have it). As far a service manual, I think most of what you need is right here on the forums.

Take care!
Marc
