Thanks for the advice! We are so stoked about this project. Our goal, so far, is thus:
1) Get it home SAFELY.
2) Gut interior, saving all furnishings for cleaning and reinstallation.
3) Waterproof shell, complete necessary repairs to frame and subfloor before winter.
4) Rewire and re-plumb over winter.
5) Reinstall furnishings with updated/repaired upholstery and curtains in spring.
6) Camp.

This may happen faster or slower than our projected time frame. Worst case scenario, we go camping next July in a large, painted aluminum tent.

That has been done before! It is still fun!! Not to discourage you, but, it has taken me 3yrs to get mine in shape. Now mind you, I don't get to work on it much. Gone a lot for work and then when I come home, I have chores to do on 6 acres. It has still been fun, though and we have another we can camp in, so there is really no rush.

Keep us posted on your progress. We like pictures here on the forum.

Here it is: Untouched Condition

We finally got out to see the Argosy. Turns out, it's been sitting for about 23 years, and has sunk into the asphalt! Also, it has been kept under the loving shelter of a large pine, which has been considerate enough to strip some of the paint off for us. The interior was namely musty, with lots of mouse activity. However, the floor didn't seem spongy, all the hardware is intact, and the frame, though rusty, still has some of the original paint on it. My 240 lb husband jumped on the rear bumper, and there doesn't appear to be any rear end separation. The door gasket was in perfect condition, not cracked at all. My uncle bought the trailer new in 1976, and still has all the original paperwork, manuals, option information, and Argosy Owner's Identification Card. Dealer serviced (until, you know, 1996 or so, ha). So here it is!

Thanks for the pictures. That's going to be quite a project. Hopefully the floor is sound, and except for the end cap most of the work will be cosmetic. Good Luck!

It is! The tree dent definitely caused a leak where the front lights are, since you can see the water damage running down the curtains from that spot. We'll be going back out this week to tow it home, which will take some creativity. We'll obviously be able to further assess once we get it home.

Home!

After a quick powerwashing and some new tires, we drove the Argosy home. She towed wonderfully the whole five hour trip (would have been three and a half, sans lunch breaks and slower travel speed). We made it the entire way without crashing and bursting into flame once. Overall, we're feeling optimistic. She will definitely be getting a full gutting with new insulation. But for now, she's home!
