Water tank odour

I have original copper plumbing in the minuet and my wife says all water out of the faucets and shower has a plastic shell to it. We do not drink from the tanks but just use it for hand washing and occasional showers.

Question: is there an additive we can put in the tank to remove the smell?

Thanks

Dan

I presume you mean "plastic smell"... I would empty the fresh water tank if it has been sitting there a while, and either do a full sanitation treatment (the process can be found in this sub-forum: Fresh Water Systems - Airstream Forums ) or refill the tank adding a weak bleach solution to the fresh water tank...it may take several treatments to get rid of the smell... We add a weak bleach solution to our fresh water periodically or when we are using an unfamiliar water source.

Good luck!

The suggestion to use bleach is a good one. It need not be chlorine bleach. Sometimes a bottle of peroxide (sold as an antiseptic) works well when added to the tank.

In either case, run your pump and open the faucets to let the bleach-containing water circulate through the pipes. Then drain the tank, and fill it and flush the system with good domestic water.
