Tongue weight of 1973 24 footer.

I just found out that the 73 24 foot Argosy I am going to look at doesn't have a weight distribution hitch on it. What is the tongue weight of this trailer and also the total weight empty? Is it possible to pull this home with a 2006 Trailblazer EXT with the tow package? It will be about a 175 mile trip home. Will the Trailblazer be up to the task with a WD hitch? Any opinions on this would be appreciated. Thanks Brian

The 'rule of thumb' is the tongue weight is 10% of the dry weight of the coach. My '66 24' weight is 4100#. Tongue weight is 410#...before the propane, 40 gals of water and the spare tire are added.

Does anyone have a chart with the Argosy weights and tongue weights? I have one for AS. Can a 24 footer be pulled safely without WD hitch?

If this comes through, here is the '75 Argosy manual page with weights listed.

WDH hitch is HIGHLY recommended. I used to tow a large pop up with a similar car that I have to tow my 24' Trade Wind. Okay the pop up weighed 1800# plus camping gear, food, bedding, clothes plus 3 bikes and a canoe on top. I was blown away at how much better the WDH does for me on the Trade Wind to all the weight that pop up was on the bumper hitch.

When I collected our trailer, it was after similar careful consideration of the towing limits of the vehicle I used. After making similar info requests of the forum I invested in
A tranny cooler install
Serviced of the transmission and engine (Oil/filter changes)
Installed a WD hitch
Took a sway control set up with me.
I was not able to set up the sway control but was impressed with how the trailer towed with my underpowered vehicle, no doubt due to the WD hitch.
I am not suggesting your vehicle is also underpowered, just that ours was determined (by the forum) to be and they were right, but I had no issues on the 900km journey home.

Best of luck

Bex
