Time for paint

Yesterday I took our 73 Argosy 22 to a friend to be painted. I made a mistake by telling him that after the it's painted I would leave and he could add whatever he wanted. Normally I wouldn't worry about this but he is a street rodder and builds custom cars. I may come home with flames. scallops, or fins on the back. Oh well, I just have to wait and see.

Sounds like it might be fun! If he does add stuff, please post photos?

Hope he knows that a special self etching primer or an acid wash is required to get good adhesion on the aluminum.

Long term super problems, when you use an acid or self etching.

Sanding with 120 to 150 grit paper, works without any problems, ever.

The problems with the acid and etching is that acid is trapped under rivet heads, and in time, will create a water leak.

And no, the paint does not permanently seal the rivets.

How many water leaks?

Could be thousands.

That was proved 40 years ago.

Many owners choose to paint their Airgosy trailer and motorhome, a metallic silver.

It then looks like an Airstream, except for the name that's on it.

The color is going to be a light green. I know a lot of people don't like green but my wife does and if the wife ain't happy nobody's happy. As for cost it will be materials only. Maybe a lunch.

Well, I got it back today and he didn't go as wild as I thought he might. I love it and so does the wife.

WOW!! Too cool! Reminds me of those old VW vans painted green, but they weren't as nice a shade of green as your Argosy.

Your friend did a great job--painting as well as decorating--very restrained relatively speaking, and totally beautiful! Congratulations!!
