There are 16 locker latches on a '75 Argosy 24'

14 of them are brown (on mine at least) and the 2 in the bathroom are whitish. This is not counting the 3 overhead bins, just the lockers with the pull latch.

You may be asking yourself why I counted these latches today, and why it made such an impression that I felt compelled to post about it... well, the brown ones looked like crap. They were faded and looked brittle, though they seem to work well. Here's what one looked like:

Forums member idroba saw my shameful latches in the photo and suggested Krylon Fusion spraypaint for plastic, which is a brilliant idea. Here's what the same latch looks like now:

And my under-bed lockers are much improved as well, here's a before-and-after:

And the galley lockers:

I actually used Valspar "spray paint for plastic" because neither of the first 2 places I went carried Krylon, believe it or not (both chains are listed on Krylon's website, but neither Home Depot nor Lowe's in SE Fort Worth had any, or any shelf space for it. I figured I'd try one latch with the Valspar and hunt down the Krylon if the results weren't good.

The color is "Satin Chestnut." I put 3 light coats on each latch, with 10-15 minutes between coats and tried to let them dry quite a while before re-installing them. My thanks again to idroba for the idea, the results are very pleasing.

PS: Lest you think I did them one at a time, I did the under-bed latch first, and reinstalled it for the before-and-after picture before doing the rest in 2 batches.

Amazing what a can of spray paint in good hands can do!

Thanks!

The dish towel is a custom gift from neighbor friends who have a '60s Avion. They also have one of those magic programmable sewing machines.

DBK_SATX: I am so glad you found how easy and how good looking the Argosy cabinet latches can be re finished. Mine on my 75, 22' rear door looked about as bad, and now look great, which is why I suggested you try it on yours. BTW Krylon Fusion in the brown shade can be purchased at Wal Mart usually, but yours looks great also.

I am in love with Krylon Fusion for interior restoration. The "old banana yellow" on the white plastic surfaces such as the end caps looks like new when done with White Satin Fusion. The refrigerator vent too. And the AC covers. Even the Tambor doors which are white will come out looking like new with that same white paint.

Thanks for trying it and mentioning that I suggested it. Nice to have a good community of people who share ideas.
