Interesting...mine is 12-72, vin# 20D3V1027. I guess it didn't leave the factory until 73. Is there anyway to research the history of the vin further?Thanks Janet!

I'm not an expert but here's what I would suspect that yours was number 27 made for model year 1973 (could have been built late in 72)

your vin breaks out like this:
20 = length
D = rear bath, double
3 = 1973
v = Versailles
1027 - sequential serial number

You might contact customer service at the factory and beg for info...

The date is at the top....1-1-73....so I'm assuming it didn't leave production until 74?

date manufacture 1-1-73
vin # 26T4V 0618

Janet,

Thanks for the vin map. Helped me decipher the Minuet vin. BTW, wonder who has the oldest Minuet? 5213 here

Maybe an unofficial registry/record

Argosys were only produced during a specific time-frame in the 70s. Perhaps we (Argosy owners) should register them on our Argosy forum to see how many still exist.

Just an idea, looking for comments.

Interesting Thread

Since I am new to the Agrosy/Airstream family, I had been researching the VIN/Model numbers to get an idea what they ment.

Mine is here below:

24T3V0870

24 = 20 ft
T = rear bath, Twin Beds
3 - the year, 1972
V = versailles - location of build
0870 = sequential serial number

My build date was 11/72

Based on the sequential numbers listed above, there are only a few, I would guess that mine was the 870th Argosy ever built. The posters with 1972 units were in the 200's and the poster with the 1977 unit was in the 5,000's ranges.

Any way you look at it, I doubt that there are not very many Airstream owners that can claim to be owners or such a "Rare" "Limited Production" unit. When you think about it, our Argosy's should really be worth more than an Airstream of the same time. Ok, well that might be stretching things a little, but I am glad to be part of such and "Exclusive" club within the great family of Airsteam Travel Traliers.

More Argosy data

Build date 11-76

VIN: 24T7V1609

Trivia: The owner's manual has the original owner registration and warranty card issued to a Mr. King, York, PA. Sold by Trav-L Homes of Royersford, PA.

Sold on 4-1-78. Looks like this puppy had a birthday before it was sold the first time.

Your VIN Sequence number blows my build theory out of the water. You have a 1977 with a 1609 sequence number and a previous poster had a 1977 with a 5,000 sequence number, but it was from CA. Maybe its Model Sequence number. In your case its the 1609th built 24T.

Just a guess

Close.
24=24 feet long
T= rear bath, center twins
3= 1973 model year
V= Versailles, Ohio
0870= sequential builers number.

Also, Argosy and Airstream use different sequential builders numbers, running concurently. It is possible to find an Argosy with the same sequential bulders number as an Airstream.

Brain Dead

That's what I get for copying your format above. I forgot to change the year and the length.

Thanks, for the correction.

I thought mine was early at #499, but that's clearly not the case.

Im happy to report that Liz and I are the proud new owners of Terry's Old Rivets. We picked her up on Thursday in North Carolina and camped our way home to New Jersey. I think we hit EVERY Camping World store between Hendersonville and home, getting new stuff, replacement parts, and in general, blowing our checking account.

Old Rivets is now temporarily known as Old Stinky (she sat unused for a year and a half), when she is cleaned up andpainted, she'll get her new name painted on the side - "Elsa's Pride". I've been toying with hving a line from Antsy McClain's tune "Living in Aluminum" painted on the back - "Thou Shall Enjoy The Ride".

Cool Enjoy the Ride

Bob: If you ever do get Thou Shalt Enjoy the Ride on the back of your Airstream, please make sure to get a picture of it and send it my way so I can get it to Antsy. He would be thrilled.
