System drain valve?

On my '73 Argosy 22' is the city water connection also the plumbing system drain valve or is there another somewhere?

If it's anything like my 72 Tradewind, there are a couple of drains that have separate valves at various locations inside the trailer. Hopefully, someone with the same model as you will chime in and tell you where they should be located. In mine, the valves are located under the galley sink and another in the rear bathroom storage compartment.

Hi Hawkeye5. Your water tank is above the floor under the gaucho at the front? I'm guessing here from my recall with my '74 Argosy. If you blew 40 psi compressed air into your city water connection, it would come out any opened taps and it would push water forward and into the fresh water tank. There should be a valve low on the fresh water tank (left of center near the pump) that drains by gravity out a hose through the floor and belly pan. Pressurizing the plumbing probably won't increase effectiveness at draining the fresh water tank.

I'll willingly stand corrected by someone with fresher recall on this.

The best I can do is confirm the drain location of the fresh water tank. My PO replumbed the whole thing, so I can't tell you what a stock one has for a system drain.

There should be a check valve that keeps the water from draining out the city water supply when you are using the onboard water pump. Similarly, there should be a check valve in the piping to keep the city water from entering the water tank. There is a drain on the water tank that drains the tank. There are usually drains near the water heater and near the city water inlet. There is also a drain on the water heater itself so you can drain the water heater by opening the little brass valve and the pop-off valve. Look under the unit for hoses hanging down below the belly pan for locations of the various drain valves.

In my old 72 TW the pump was used to empty the tank in the original plumbing set up. There were two sets of drain valves one by the tank the other in the rear of the trailer. Th owners manual provided directions for what to open and what to close. I am re-plumbing now and the new set up will be much more efficient.

There should be a check valve that will (hopefully) prevent city water from flowing into the tank. See if you can get someone to copy the water set up from an owners manual, that may have the clearest answer.
