Step release handle broke due to metal fatigue! How to repair?

The step release handle broke just above the knob on my Argosy. I think it was just to metal fatigue because it snapped right off in my hand while lowering the steps. Any ideas on how to fix this thing? I can see that I will need to repair from underneath the steps when I figure out what to do. I guess hire someone to weld on a new handle? Any suggestions?

Did you find a solution? I live in fear of this happening to me.

Not exactly sure which part you are referring too. However Out of Doors Mart carries a bunch of parts and are vintage friendly. I would call their parts department and ask.

Thanks, Wahoonc. I didn't know they had all those parts. I will definitely give them a call.
DryFly: this is the first response I've received. I love Snoqualmie. I'm from WA, but currently live in NM.
