Absolutely, if the job is done as it should be.

The should be means, strip the coach, sand into the metal with 120 to 150 grit sandpaper, not scuff it, but sand it, seal all the seams, 2 double wet coats of epoxy primer, 3 double wet coats of whatever color, and then 2 double wet coats of clear.

That then is a first class job that will last 20 years or more.

The price that was quoted, simply cannot do all of those things, at such a cheap price, unless their labor rate is $10.00 per hour. Or, the job will be secondary, at best.

They may paint on top of the old finish, which we all know was junk to start with.

There was this guy on ebay a couple of years ago that tried to auction off his AS for advertising space. Not the AS, he still kept it. He would just tow it around as usual, but with someone else's ad for a year.

What is the recommended product for stripping the paint since most products contain acid? The previous owner of the Argosy we currently own painted it himself with epoxy and a paint roller (ugh). We want to strip it down and do it right. Thanks

From what I have read and heard from thevap.com (podcast) th best thing to use is Aircraft Stripper I think it is made by Kleen and some Home depots carry it. I am thinking about stripping to the silver and just paint the end caps. I just cant see paying $7-10K on paint.

Stripper

We have used "aircraft stripper" for years.

Costs a little more, but does a great job.

All to many of the cheap strippers have to be used 2 to 3 times, to get the job done.

PM EMPresley here on the forums. He had his Argosy painted a little over a year ago here in GA. I don't know how much prep work he did himself or if he painted it himself, too. He may have done the entire job himself, but he can give you an idea if the price you were quoted was realistic for the east coast or not.
