Call Palomino Parts (a division of Palomino RV) and talk to Brian or Jevin. Order a Carrier 15,000 BTU AirV with the Airsweep. Get the heating unit with it. Mine cost $475 plus shipping. Install it and be happy.
Don't waste your time with a used one.
Palomino's number is on here. Just do a search. They'll hook you up. Install is a piece of cake.
A modern 15K will chill your rig like a freezer. That's pretty nice on a hot day!
see ya on the road,

Carrier
I saw a place on ebay supposedly selling new ones (13.5 Carriers) for $388.00, plus $49.00 for optional heat strip & $99.00 for shipping.

Somewhere on this forum?
Hi, I have read that some forum members, living in really hot areas, claimed their 13,500 BTU A/C wasn't good enough and they were going to replace them with 15,000 BTU A/Cs. I would think that they would sell you their 13,500 A/Cs at a reasonable price.

I bought ours from a seller on Ebay. Family RV in Florida. Probably the one you saw. They had the best price over anyone. I called them directly to order, it saved me the shipping cost. They have a warehouse here in Calif they ship from too (no local pickup). More btu's is always better. If you are going to spend any time in the heat you'll thank yourself in the long run. The Carrier Air V w/air shower is the best out there. We installed it with the help of Terry(overlander63). It is not a one person job, they are heavy. You'll have to add some 2x4's to the opeing to give it better support too.

AC on ebay
Here's the link to the ad I saw on Ebay.
I'm thinking about ordering one of the 13.5's or 15's from them with the optional heat strip ($49.00). Should I get the optional heat strip?
(My Argosy already has a replacement AC in it now (junk) and has 2x4's on either side, so hopefully it should be a bolt in swap!)

Those are good prices. I had looked at this one a while back. Mine is still working okay, but I know I need to to get more efficient.

Getting the heat strip is a personal choice. We already have a perfectly good heater that uses the propane, so we didn't need it. Our new one had the new gasket and once tightened we didn't even need to seal it on the outside. Maybe someday, but for now the new gasket is sufficient. Your link listed is the same people I dealt with for ours. Their prices beat out anyone else's, as the units include the gasket and the interior ceiling unit. Some other vendors sell all pieces separately. If you call them directly as I did and pay just with credit card and not Paypal they will throw in the free shipping. I think I talked with Todd for my order. They were very helpful.

We just put in one of the Carrier 15K units with heat strip. It's too cool here to test the AC adequately, but on the warmest day we've had, I tried it, and it was cooler than the ambient air.
HOWEVER, I tried the heat strip this morning during the cool. And I wasn't that impressed. Yes, it was putting out a modicum of mildly warm air, but if it's cold outside, turn on the furnace.

Portable Air Conditioner
I'm thinking now (since I just had to buy a new converter) about buying a Portable Air Conditioner for use in our Argosy. Anyone tried that?

I bought a portable for the kids tent (I know!), you'd have to have a place to put the exhaust hose to vent the hot air from the unit.

LOL......it would do til you decide on your permanent replacement. The one I got has a 4" hose. Works pretty well. It's a 9500 btu, I picked it up at home depot for about 300. It cools them off enough to get decent sleep on those 90 degree, 90 percent humidity nights.

It's weird, I keep reading about how the 13.5 units aren't up to the task of cooling RVs in the Southwest, but our original Armstrong 12.5 froze our butts off, when we were full-timing in Arizona, in 2006. I wonder if it's a case of, "They don't make em like they used to"?

My 13.5 Coleman has a hard time here in Florida when it is in the 90's, but it is an old unit. Mine used to have an Armstrong on it, so I think this is the second A/C on this coach. Going to replace it soon, before next year, as it is throwing the breakers more often.

Well for now I opted to buy a Portable Air Conditioner, I found a 9500 BTU on Craigslist for $100.00. It uses a dryer type hose to discharge the hot air and blows cold throught the front vents. Its over 80 degrees today and its cooling fine. This may do me since we don't camp that much. I have it sitting in the closet now with the door open and I vented it out 1 of the gaping factory holes in the closet floor.
(Some of the holes the AS factory left are big enough for a raccoon to get through, esp around the plumbing vent pipes!)
I think I'll replace/cover the closet floor with new plywood and cut a dryer vent hole in the bottom with a screen. It came with a vent thingy to place on the end of the dryer vent discharge so that you can turn off the AC and make it a heater, not sure how that will work out? (Raccoons might be upset...)

The way I see it, the raccoons should get their own Argosy!
Glad it worked out for you
