I would go with a roof mounted AC unit. You can find some good prices here: eBay Store - FAMILY RV PARTS STORE: RV AIR CONDITIONERS, CARRIER A C OPTIONS, RV REFRIGERATORS
I bought a unit from them and it has worked well for me.

It's weird, I keep reading about how the 13.5 units aren't up to the task of cooling RVs in the Southwest, but our original Armstrong 12.5 froze our butts off, when we were full-timing in Arizona, in 2006. I wonder if it's a case of, "They don't make em like they used to"?

My 13.5 Coleman has a hard time here in Florida when it is in the 90's, but it is an old unit. Mine used to have an Armstrong on it, so I think this is the second A/C on this coach. Going to replace it soon, before next year, as it is throwing the breakers more often.

Well for now I opted to buy a Portable Air Conditioner, I found a 9500 BTU on Craigslist for $100.00. It uses a dryer type hose to discharge the hot air and blows cold throught the front vents. Its over 80 degrees today and its cooling fine. This may do me since we don't camp that much. I have it sitting in the closet now with the door open and I vented it out 1 of the gaping factory holes in the closet floor.

(Some of the holes the AS factory left are big enough for a raccoon to get through, esp around the plumbing vent pipes!)

I think I'll replace/cover the closet floor with new plywood and cut a dryer vent hole in the bottom with a screen. It came with a vent thingy to place on the end of the dryer vent discharge so that you can turn off the AC and make it a heater, not sure how that will work out? (Raccoons might be upset...)

The way I see it, the raccoons should get their own Argosy!

Glad it worked out for you

Have any of you used the low profile A/C's and do they perform as good as the regular ones?
My A/C works but is the original one that came on the Argosy in 78. I haven't used it for the last three seasons due to the fact that we are mostly Boondocking and I put in two Fantastic Fans.

Also do any of you put on a winter cover on your Argosy's, if you do what cover fits best?
