Welcome aboard R.,

Now you can change that to . I have to admit you sent me scrambling to figure out what you meant by 'rear entry.' This is from argosytrailer.com -- Is this what your unit looks like? [on edit: argosytrailer.com now a dead link -- a great loss]

I hope you can handle the addiction that comes with this website! Lotsa fun to be had learning more about our units!!

rear entry model

Bob, thanks for the reply.I'm sorry I didnot mean to scare anyonoe with that rear entry buisness. The door is towards the back of the trailer rather than the tow hitch. You enter into the trailer near the bathroom.I'll send lots of pictures as soon as I figure out how.I'v posted 3 threads with photos attached and they all disappeared.I even drove up to the lake to see if they had landed in the trailer somehow.Could'nt find them anywhere but it was a good excuse to visit my Argosy.Let me know if you receive this one or I'll be heading out the door again.

thanks again, Ray

Can someone tell me how I can post some photos of my argosy so that you may all see my humble digs.It is not much but it is mine and I'm very proud of it.I was told that there were not many of the argosy trailers made with the door towards the back end of the unit. thanks, Ray

If you open into the Forum section at the top of the page you will find one section titled About these forums, How-To's & more.... The 2nd & 3rd threads are about posting photos. Experiment posting pictures here again.

So, is your trailer laid out like this? Or not?

reply to you 2

Is an Argosy an Airstream or is it an Airstream Argosy or an Argosy by Airstream?Whatever I still love it .If you look at the picture you've posted for me,the door is towards the front of the trailer,[to the right of the wheel wells],when you veiw the photo on your screen. My argosy's door is left of the wheel wells, towards the back of the trailer.

Okay. Historians? Any firsthand experience with this type door.

Ray, you almost had me going there until I found the following picture of a 1977 24 footer with a door apparently behind the axles. Anything is possible (assuming nobody flipped the image accidentally, but that seems unlikely given the distance from the trailer front to the little bit of wheel well visible). I don't know whether this was an available option or an example of how far Airstream used to go in regard to special requests.

We'll look forward to seeing pictures!

The only brochures that I have in the house this evening are the 1978 and 1979 that don't list the rear entry floor plans. I do know that it was a regular production coach in either one or two lengths earlier in the 1970s. I don't know whether it is in the 1975 or 1977 brochures that are in my Minuet, but I know that it is illustrated in one or both of those brochures. With this floor plan, the center twins appear to have been moved to the front as convertible lounges on either side of the center aisle. If the snow continues to melt, I may be able to get to the Minuet tomorrow evening.

There are also at least one or two Forum members who have coaches with this floor plan if I remember correctly.

Hey Ray ~

Sounds like your picture-posting efforts are being effected by one of the following:

1. Do you "Preview Reply" your posts with the pictures before sending them? If so, it'll lose the pictures when you do send your post. Try posting a comment with a picture attached without previewing it first.

2. Your pictures are too big. Try making them smaller and see if that helps.

You may want to check out "How to post photos 101" for suggested photo sizes & some additional pointers.

Hang in there, before you know it you'll be a pro!

Shari

Roger,
Yes they did make an Argosy with the door towards the rear of the unit on the curb side. I have seen 2 one sitting in a field far off the road, the other on a low boy trailer southbound on I-95 in SC. It is my understanding they made very few of them mainly in 1974-75.

You might contact Charlie Burke at American Way RV in Boise ID. He is the Parts Guru there and has a 22 ft Argosy. I seem to recall it was a rear entry...... He may have answers for you. He was instrumental in helping me find a replacement potty that would fit without cutting into the "secret compartment"

RE: Argosy with Rear Entry Floor Plan

I finally located my sales literature for the 1975 through 1979 model years for Argosy. The Rear Entry Floor Plan was offered in 1975, 1976, and 1977 - - it seems to have disappeared about the time that the Minuet was introduced.

In 1975, Argosy offered two primary floor plans in the 22-foot model - - a traditional front entry with an empty weight of 3,360 pounds and hitch weight of 560 pounds; and a "Rear Door Model" with an empty weight of 3,720 pounds and hitch weight of 410 pounds. The "Rear Door Model" shared its bath with the front entry model, but little else was common between the two floor plans - - the bath is located immediately to the left as you enter with a double-wardrobe on the streetside opposite the door; to the right of the door is an "L" shaped dinette; the galley is entirely streetside; a credenza table is in the approximate position of the "traditional" front entry door; and a lounge is found across the front. The front entry 22' is a typical floor plan for Airstream products of that size and era with a lounge to the right of the door, galley to the left, lounge opposite the galley, rear bath, and wardrobe.

In 1976, the Argosy 22 was again shown with both the typical front entry floor plan as well as the "Rear Door Model". The weights listed were also the same as in 1975.

In 1977, the Argosy 22 was shown only with the front entry. The "Rear Door Model" moved up to the 24' model that was now offered with both the traditional front entry floor plan as well as the "Rear Door Model". With the "Rear Door Model", the bath was the standard rear bath which was immediately the left of the entry door; a wardrobe was found streetside immediately opposite the entry door; the galley was streetside opposite an "L" shaped dinette; and a pair of twin beds are shown on opposite sides of the aisle in the front of the coach (I suspect that these are convertible lounges, but nothing is said or shown in the literature to confirm or deny this suspicion). The Argosy 24 Rear Door Model is listed with an empty weight of 3,750 pounds and a hitch weight of 475 pounds; while the front entry model is listed with an empty weight of 3,610 pounds and a hitch weight of 560 pounds.

I have only run across two of these coaches in my travels. I didn't know how unusual this floor plan was at the time as I was just developing an interest in Argosys.

And Ray (nu2argosy) now has posted 4 photos. I like that interior! Somebody had noted who had done it on another thread Ray started. What are the details?

Well, RTFM. Right? All I had to do was look in my 1976 manual. I knew the entire line's floor plans from 20' to 28' were in there. I didn't suspect it would include the plans for this uncommon trailer.

Key:
1. Waste outlet
2. Water Inlet -- City
3. Univolt
4. 120V Distribution Panel
5. Battery
6. Furnace
7. Water Heater
8. Water Pump
9. Water Inlet -- Tank
10. Electrical Inlet -- City
11. Toilet
12. Range and Oven
13. Range Exhaust Hood
14. Sink
15. Air Conditioner
16. Refrigerator
17. Table
18. Travel Lounge
19. AM-FM Stereo Radio/Tape
20. LPG Tanks and Regulator
21. Hitch
