Polished Argosy

I came across an ad for a Argosy for sale that was polished and I have to say I like it. I know its a lot of work but mine needs a paint job and I am tempted to go this route since I have no painting skills or equipment. I do plan on selling my trailer at some point so do you think it would hurt the value polishing it or help the value?

If the polish is done right it should not hurt the value. Remember that end cap is going to have to be painted since it is steel on the Argosy trailers.

Those painted endcaps on a polished trailer look like a bad toupee.

If you really don't like the steel end caps, there is no reason (other than money) they can't be replaced by the usual 3 aluminum segments from an Airstream.

Or possibly a 13 panel end cap kit

Or just paint the whole trailer silver and be done with it.

Is there not some structural frame differences? I asked the question in another thread because I have all the segments to do this. In fact, I have all the panels to completely re skin my 28ft if I wanted to. If you have more info I would appreciate it.

That's a lot of work! I wonder how the steel end caps would polish up and if they could be clear coated to prevent any rust.

I doubt you could find a clear coat that would stick and not peel after you polished them. Many people on the old car forums have tried to clear coat a stripped car that was sanded but not polished, and they still rust after a year or so.

I do like the polished look on any AS but can think of more exciting ways to spend a weekend. Like, well, I don't know, maybe camping?
I had mine painted '2008 Tundra silver' to match my TV. No work involved other than the occasional hose down.

I guess what's making me hesitate about repainting it is the skill level involved to make the paint look good (BTW I have NONE). I have heard pricing form 4000.00-6000.00 to hire some one to paint it and that is too much for me. I have also been toying with the idea of painting the end caps and strait across the roof in line with the bottom of the end caps and polishing the body from there down. I think if the roof and upper 1/3 of the trailer paint is not perfect it will still look pretty good. I believe I can do it with a roller and it would be okay for that situation. I wish I could use Photoshop to see what it would look like.

Here is a link to a former thread on the subject:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f227...os-100143.html

My post is #5, my striping and polishing on an Argosy. I did it about 12 years ago, when it was not cool to own Airstreams or Argosy's, and I was really on my own learning how to polish things. BTW, never again. It was a whole lot of work. Some of the metal panels under the paint were in pretty rough condition from the factory. They had been body putty filled where there were dents (and even drill holes) and panel scratches covered up with primer, then painted over all.
