I started stripping my '74 Argosy 28' this past Sunday and it's going fairly well. We plan to paint the end caps and possibly the entire roof, but the rest will be polished. Sure, it may not be perfect once we're done, but I'd rather have a few rough spots than repaint. To each his own!

An Argosy sold on eBay recently for $18000, polished with painted roof and end caps, the line separating the paint from the polish running from the bottom of the end caps all the way around--looked great. The inside was just so-so, maintained and a bamboo (?) floor, but looking original otherwise. We're stripping ours up to the "cap line" and planning to paint the roof white as we're in Florida.

I searched the completed listings and found it. I was thinking about painting the roof and sides down as far as the lower edge of the end caps. Any input on how that might look from anyone. Thanks Steve

marked out dividing line between roof line and polish line

Here is an idea of what I am thinking. White paint (or other cool temp color) above the blue masking tape and polish below. Polish the window frames and not sure about a color yet for the banana wraps.

I've started to strip the bottom of my argosy 22 and going to paint it white above the aluminum trim. Striping is easy but a nasty job full protection and protective eye gear a must. I recommend jasco paint striper for enamel. Click image for larger version

Do you have any pictures of the finished job? I have been thinking about doing the same thing. Our Argosy was painted white in '07 by the fellow we just purchased it from. While the paint is not all that shiny, he said it could be polished. It is just SO much white and I love the silver to look at but the sun reflection of the light color on top.
Thanks!

I had mine done by a shop that does aluminum semi-truck trailers and has done a few airplanes. They used an aircraft stripper. I was told other strippers might be to harsh on the aluminum.

I am not going to strip and polish my Argosy. Why? Because I did my 16' 1964 Terry, over the last couple of years. Way too much work and it cost me the better part of a rotator cuff. YMMV but paying someone to paint the trailer is a much quicker, easier (and easier to maintain) option for me. Just my 2.
