The original colors look kind of dated to me, I recommend you inspect one in person before committing. I love the bright white Argosys! But when (if) I paint mine it will probably be silver with the exposed frame, bumper and banana wrap a darker grey or black.

Good luck,

Steve

Not silver paint!!!

If you are painting it silver... why not do the really cool thing, and strip it, and polish it, and paint the endcaps a nice silver/chrome? They look awesome, and no paint to mess with, except for the end caps in the future.

Here is a Jeep Wagoneer on Ebay White w/ Pearl Flames on it:

The man painting it is coming by tommorrow to give me an estimate and discuss how I want it painted. I will let you know what I decide. I can't make up my mind on the white or silver? I have heard silver paint does not hold up well?

White holds up better in the sunny South, the silver tends to burn off unless a reallly good prep job, followed by a really good paint job, with really good paint is used.
I have seen the Grand Wagoneer in person, the flame job is really unobtrusive unless you stand at the right angle.

That's funny!!! Why would one give up the best reason to own an Argosy? Let's see, paint it and forget it, or spend a couple months of weekends polishing it and then do it again every summer? Oh yeah and moan after every rain when water spots develop. We listen to the VAP, we know polishing is a lifetime commitment Also, I've only seen pictures but have you ever seen a polished Argosy where the end cap paint was a great match, can it be done? Rumor has it that Argosys used the body panels that were "seconds" and that's why they were painted. So after a polish job they may not be as smooth looking as our bare siblings.

Good luck with you choice!

Steve

The end caps on an Argosy are STEEL that seems to be treated with something.

The caps are probably galvanized but are not the silver colour I usually associate with galvanizing. There was a small amount of dissimilar metal rust around the aluminum fixtures and also were the caps meet the main body panels.

The end caps have been exposed for ten months now with no discernable difference in appearance from the day we scraped the paint off.

How about Gold and Flames!

Then when everyone asks you about it,
You can say it is a Gold Argosy, a step above the Silver Airstreams!

Black does look like it would too hot..

And white is just so plain...hot

Oh yeah, gold metal flake, or gold chrome! That'd do Wally proud. It'd look like his gold annodized one.

That would be really cool!

This has me thinking now....instead of bassboat huge metalflake red, how about bassboat huge metal flake gold for my trailer. I was gonna polish it. But that paint would sure be a lot less maintenance.

That might look too bling bling though to come into the campground with the metallic gold camper. Still be cool though

What's the average price for a good paint job?...

I can understand your dilema. My Argo has been in the paint shop since 5/18. They are prepping it for the paint job now. I'm still unsure of what color to have them paint it. I sent them the picture of the Silver Argo on Ebay and told them that I wanted it to look like that. Yesterday, I asked if they thought that the striping should be a dark grey like my tow vehicle. And if so, what should the rest of the paint color be?

I think I'm going to stick to the Silver/Grey arena. Not because I want it to like the more collectable Airstreams. It's just very attractive. Besides, my Argosy IS an Airstream.

I'm getting the 2 coats, base and clear, and the total cost is $2250. I'm being told that it will look like it just arrived from the factory. Is the pricing reasonable? Thanks.
