Paint Info for 1976 Argosy

I need to sand and touch up the clearance-light areas on the steel caps of my otherwise excellent paint on a 1976 Argosy. Any suggestions on automotive-type touch-up paint for these small areas? Plan to sand and touch up these small areas until I can do an entire paint job in the future.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I have a 78, 24ft Argosy. I have used the Krylon #1504, Ivory Gloss on the end caps after sanding and washing. It has lasted well and is an exact match for my Argosy. It's just a temporary fix, but it works until you really need to spend the big money to have it painted. We did repaint the mid stripe back to the original 78 Copper color and may decide to paint the rest of the trailer ourselves. When that time comes, we will use a high quality auto paint mixed to match the Ivory Gloss, preceded by a good primer of course. Try the Krylon for your short term fix. I think you'll like it.

We used Dupli-Color T205W Wimbledon White, pretty darn good match. Actually found it at Wal-Mart. Good luck, let us know how you make out, pics are good

Colors for the red emblems and the brown trim???

Thanks for the great info for the main paint color. Could you let me know if you have similar information for paint colors for the red emblems and the brown trim on a 1976 Argosy? Have a great day.

Somewhere on the site you will find the exact color for the mid stripe. Try the search feature up at the top. We just tried to match the product advertising when we had it mixed. It was originally a copper color and what we put on was pretty close. I don't have any red on my Argosy. The front and back name is in orange, which is hard to find except in a spray paint. I got some artist paint and used a very small brush to paint the inside of the letters. If you have the vinyl inserts on yours, you can order that from any Airstream dealer or Inland RV. It's easy to put in.

I have found the Krylon "Leather Brown" to fairly close for the brown on the banana wrap. Sorry, don't have the number of the color. George.

Vintage Airstream said the the colors on a 78 Argosy are DuPont Centari 4453-A Light Beige. I don't know if this is for the motor home, the travel trailer or both. The lower section was Dupont Centari 4476-AM Metallic Gold, prior to 78 was a Metallic Brown. In the 1979-80 model years the entire coach was Alpine White.

Argosy 75

Does anyone know the exact color for the '75? I have some fairly large bare spots on my Argosy that I want to cover up, but I don't want a huge patch that makes the rest of the "aging" paint look worse. No money for a total paint job right now, just want to fix it up enough to take down the road.

Also, any tips about how to go about it are welcome. So far my plan it to sand, wash, and paint out of a spray can.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I've read where some say not to sand or you'll damage the finish; however, I'm not talking about anything drastic, just hand sanding to even out the surface and remove any loose paint. Then I clean it with Marine Clean (my personal favorite), rinse it well, let it dry and paint with the Krylon. I will tell you that I have "several" cans of spray paint sitting in my garage that were close matches but not quite right. It was just a hit and miss process. The cream color has suttle differences from year to year. You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find the prince.

Where do you buy the Marine Clean? As soon as (if ever) the weather clears and it stops raining, I want to start on the exterior, like you just a temporary cleanup and paint until we can afford, or have time to do a full job.

POR-15 Marine CleanŽ - Quart This is what I use and it really, really works, inside and out. Please be sure to rinse it as the directions say. By the way, I do know how to spell subtle. What was I thinking in the post above?

Do you get it at a marine or boat equipment place, or where can you find it? Boat places are kind of scarce around here.

For 75 Argosy. The Dupont code for the ivory or beige color is 44534-A. The metallic brown on the banana wrap is 44721-AM.

These are exact matches for the original paint. Chances are your old paint has turned a chalky white and although polishing and waxing can revive it to a point, there will still be a difference between new paint and old paint.

As stated above, Krylon Ivory Gloss is a very good match and will work well for temporary touch ups.
