Original Argosy hub cap?

I lost one of my hub caps last weekend somewhere between Seattle and Pullman. Can anyone tell me if mine are original ?

If so, if someone has an extra one one I'd gladly purchase from you.

Thanks

Dan

Mine are the same only blue not orange. I also lost one and in need of a replacement. Look on the classifieds here on the forums as well as ebay and craigslist. The few times I have seen them they were out of my price range.

I think they were "nude" and the colour painted in afterwards. I have 4 "nude" as well as 3 factory finished blue and red which are not for sale. I asked Airstream about them but they could not say when they were manufactured nor what the paint codes might have been.

Original Argosy Hub Cap?

Greetings Dan!

I don't believe that there is an absolute answer to your question. The wheel cover in your photo is period correct for the optional full wheel cover option, but I am not certain about the emblem colors. During this time period, both Airstream and Argosy used the same full wheel covers, but the Argosy model was usually either plain (no colors on emblem) or beige and orange in the emblem. Since a number of Argosy dealers were also Airstream dealers, it wasn't unusual to find Airstream wheel covers on an Argosy when sold new . . . Argosys often came with hub caps rather than wheel covers so a dealer may have installed readily available Airstream full wheel covers to make the sale of a new Argosy that had the standard hubcaps. Locating color photographic evidence from the data available from the factory is difficult so the manner in which the center emblem on the Argosy wheel covers was handled has proven a bit difficult to determine as it may have differed from model year to model year.

These are the type I have and not pictured are the four with the emblem, but not painted.
The reason they are not for sale is the issue I have had trying to get them to fit. Even with a rubber mallet I just cannot hit them hard enough to fit without perhaps damaging them. Maybe they were defects?

It's original. Also used on 70s Airstreams. I have seen them on ebay for $50 to $200 each.

I have some that I'd like to sell, two are painted, two not. I also have three others that look similar but don't have the emblem in the centre. I'll try to dig them out on the weekend so I can better describe their condition. I can't get to my photos right now, but I'm pretty sure the four with the emblem came from our '74 Sovereign and the other three came from Smokeless Joe's '76 Argosy.

PM me if you're interested.

For some reason those wheel covers always reminded me of Oldsmobile Toronado or Buick Riviera wheel covers.

The five I had were nested together and one broke trying to pull them apart.

There is better info out there, I remembered reading about using acetone to repair and glue abs parts. That might be an option for you.

I checked my original 76 Argosy 26 hub caps which have the center crest but not the colors. Plain center crest.

My parent's 1975 28 foot Argosy had the optional wheel covers, and they were like the ones mentioned above. They had the crest, but the crest was not painted
